As Smurf gets to Dragon Con he want to make sure you had something to read while he was away. It’s the week of annuals and Trade Paperbacks giving us all a break from the major stories. Here are Surfs High Fives
Web of Venom Ve Nam #1> SPINNING OUT OF THE PAGES OF VENOM!
As the United States of America struggled through the Vietnam War, Nick Fury of S.H.I.E.L.D. needed a secret weapon – and when an ancient creature was discovered at an archaeological dig site, he was sure he’d found it. In reality, the discovery was an ancestor of the Klyntar symbiotes…and would become a waking nightmare for a platoon of American soldiers! (S) Donny Cates (A) Juanan Ramirez (CA) Ryan Stegman
Smurfs Take> I loved the Nam series by Marvel back in the day. Now add Furry and Venom? This could be epic. Since they brought Eddie back to the pages of Venom it has been some impressive stories, and I had my doubts. But so far have not been disappointed and I think this will be just as intriguing.
Hunt for Wolverine Dead Ends #1> THE HUNT IS OVER.
The hunt for Wolverine is over… Now the time has come to put the pieces together and see what was learned. Kitty Pryde, Daredevil, Tony Stark and Sabretooth may have found what they were looking for…but it wasn’t what they expected. Where has Wolverine been? What has he been doing? (S) Charles Soule (A) Ramon Rosanas (CA) Marco Checchetto
Smurfs Take> I know this has been dragged out, and I only hope it has so they can put together a decent story. Am I curious? You bet, there couldn’t be a more pressing question in my mind. Everything seemed rather final and had accepted Old Man Logan as our Wolverine going forward. Bu that is a story for another day. This one here could be one of the best stand out stories for the little Canadian.
Daredevil Annual #1> Misty, meet the Devil!
You know Daredevil as the Man Without Fear, the protector of Hell’s Kitchen. But once upon a time, Daredevil was just the newest super-suit on the block – and NYPD Detective Mercedes “Misty” Knight was just a cop on the job. So when she places Daredevil at the scene of a crime, sparks will fly – and not the good kind. Award-winning crime writer Erica Schultz teams with fan-favorite artist Marcio Takara to bring you a story of street-level heroism in the early days of the Marvel Universe! (S) Erica Schultz (A) Marcio Takara (CA) Shane Davis
Smurfs Take> I love the idea of this story. I miss the old days of Daredevil street vigilante.
Extermination #2> Cyclops. Iceman. Angel. Beast. Marvel Girl. The original team of teen mutants brought together by Professor Charles Xavier many years ago have been shunted through time to find a world they barely recognize but were determined to help. Now, finding themselves targeted for death, the future of mutantkind lies squarely in the hands of its past. Writer Ed Brisson (OLD MAN LOGAN, CABLE) and artist Pepe Larraz (UNCANNY AVENGERS, AVENGERS: NO SURRENDER) answer the biggest question of all: can the fate of the X-Men be changed? (S) Ed Brisson (A) Pepe Larraz (CA) Mark Brooks
Smurfs Take> The first issue was good, I am excited to see where they take it but worried at the same point it could take a drastic left.
Nightwing Annual #1> The smart city overhaul of Blüdhaven was just the beginning-a single battle in a larger cyberwar that Nightwing is only starting to understand. But now the story of the Dark Web organization begins to expand as Grayson travels to Gotham City and partners up with Vicki Vale. We live in an era of fake news, alternative facts, disinformation. The gatekeepers of truth can’t be trusted anymore, and sometimes elections, businesses and even lives are at stake. Nightwing faces off against the first of three lieutenants in the army of the Dark Web: Vire, the psychic embodiment of malware who can unearth your darkest secrets. (S) Ben Percy (A/CA) Otto Schimdt
