DCs Year of the Villain #1> Evil is winning! Lex Luthor and The Legion of Doom conspire with Cosmic Gods, bending mankind toward a dark destiny. Elsewhere, the scourge of Leviathan spreads unchecked, seizing power in every corner of the world. And all the while the Batman Who Laughs busies himself in the shadows, aligned with no one-yet with sinister plans for all.
The carnage starts here as the badguys take center stage in “The Year of the Villain,” the most treacherous event in DC Comics history. Some act with united goals, others with plans selfish and secret, every one of them on a monstrous collision course against Batman, Superman and the heroes of the DC Universe. And our heroes will fail us.
Don’t miss the start of “The Year of the Villain,” featuring the talents of writers Brian Michael Bendis, Scott Snyder and James Tynion IV, artists Jim Cheung, Alex Maleev and Francis Manapul and cover artist Greg Capullo-all for just $0.25! Smurfs Take> The kickoff for the summer event is here and it’s only a quarter. Batman Who Laughs has become a powerhouse and is looking to bring out the darker side of everyone. This is awesome! I love the villains taking center stage and if Marvel can do it well I am sure DC will do it better.
Savage Avengers #1> The most savage, most unkillable team of characters in the Marvel Universe is assembled! Wolverine! Venom! Elektra! Punisher! And in their midst – Conan the Barbarian! Conan has returned to the Marvel Universe and his new adventures begin here. What is the City of Sickles? Who is the Marrow God? How is the Hand involved? The roughest and most dangerous characters rumble through this new title starting with…Conan vs. Wolverine? ‘Nuff said. (S) Gerry Duggan (A) Mike Deodato (CA) David Finch
Smurfs Take> This looks like an 80’s dream mash up come to life, when we use to sit in the shop and build the “What if”; And it is glorious. I don’t even know what to think about this and to be honest I don’t care. Yes, I am full aware that Conan is mixed in with current day characters and that’s ok. Face it none of these characters would work together and that’s part of the wonderful nonsense of it.
Justice League #23> “The Sixth Dimension” chapter four! Our heroes have been banished to the prison planet of villains by the World Forger. Stuck with no way of escape, the team hatches a plan to defeat the World Forger and get back to their dimension with the help of a new ally, but where is Superman?! (S) Scott Snyder (A/CA) Jorge Jimenez
Batman #70> In chapter one of “The Fall and the Fallen,” Batman escapes his Knightmares only to wind up in a whole other bad dream. He’s locked in Arkham Asylum with his worst enemies, and the only way to get out is to fight them all. It’s a gladiatorial game of madness and mayhem, all for the amusement of Bane! (S) Tom King (A) Mikel Janin, Jorge Fornes (CA) Andy Kubert
Smurfs Take> What I enjoyed about the last story was how it felt like the Court of Owls moments when Batman was losing it and amped it up. I like when Batman is on the ropes and comes from behind for the win, and this has been one of those stories. But it’s still not over and makes the story even more juicy.
Gogor #1> From KEN GARING, the writer/artist of the acclaimed series PLANETOID, comes an all-new ongoing series of wonderfully weird high fantasy! Deep underground, among the floating islands of Altara, the mystical Gogor sleeps. But trouble brews above ground as soldiers of the Domus impose their will across the land. Now, a young student named Armano must awaken Gogor and begin his quest to protect the culture of Altara. This debut issue kicks off with 28 pages of story! (S) Ken Garing (A/CA) Ken Garing
Smurfs Take> Image does non-super books great and I love when they take on fantasy even more. The idea behind the book sounds fun and it’s hard to say no given their track record so far.
