Smurfs High Five

It’s the first #NewComicsDay of June and there are some great titles hitting the shelves. Smurf has a few quick takes on what he likes this week sponsored by All C’s Collectibles. Also be sure not to overlook Savage Avengers, Justice League, and Cosmic Ghost Rider Destroys Marvel History. It’s a full week for sure and here is Smurfs High Five.

The Black Cat is back and starring in her first ever ongoing series! Felicia Hardy has a taste for the finer things in life and a certain set of skills that can get her into any mansion, vault or museum to…procure said finer things. But due to her actions in AMAZING SPIDER-MAN, Felicia’s not only on the run from the police but also by the New York Theives Guild and their boss ODESSA DRAKE! High-octane heists, climactic chases and twist after twist that will keep you on the edge of your seat like a cat on a perch. IN THIS ISSUE: Find out a secret from Cat’s past in a bonus story that sets a foundation for the future! All this and an all-new MARVEL MEOW short story by Nao Fuji! (S) Jed MacKay (A) Travel Foreman, Michael Dowling, Nao Fuji (CA) J. Scott Campbell

Smurfs Take> I am completely on board for this title. When I first heard about it I thought it was more of a joke than anything. I know it might have some similarities to Catwoman but I have always had a fondness to Black Cat and thought her very under used. I thought back in the late 80’s and 90’s we would have seen this but it never happened. Wishes can come true and I cant wait to read it.

Luke Skywalker 1Star Wars Luke Skywalker #1> THE FIRST TEMPTATION OF LUKE SKYWALKER! After learning the true identity of his father, LUKE continues his training and prepares for the inevitable showdown, determined never to follow the path of VADER. But when a rebel general’s mistakes lead to disaster and Luke must seize command, the DARK SIDE tempts him as never before. Featuring the eerie influence of THE EMPEROR! (S) Greg Pak (A) Chris Sprouse, Stefano Landini, Scott Koblish (CA) Terry Dodson, Rachel Dodson

Smurfs Take> Since Marvel took over control of the Star Wars title from Dark Horse it has left me wondering a lot about the core characters. What has changed? Are there different paths that have been taken? The Dark Empire was a great read back in the 90’s and had road mapped a lot of this out. Does it change? Is there more to add and with the next movie quickly approaching does this fit into it? It’s exciting to ponder but now we may have some of those answers.

batman 72Batman #72> “The Fall and the Fallen” part three! Is this the end of Gotham City? Bane’s army of villains is taking over the city, and Batman’s back is against the wall. With all the things Bane has done to him over the last year-from breaking up his wedding to trying to assassinate Nightwing, and then invading Batman’s mind to expose his most terrible fears-could this be the worst hate the Caped Crusader has ever encountered?  (S) Tom King (A) Mikel Janin (CA) David Finch

Smurfs Take> Read this book! What is going on has been a master at work and a long set up and I have a feeling the payoff is going to be even better.

war of realms 5War of the Realms #5> MIDGARD’S LAST STAND
Malekith’s army gets a whole new crop of recruits – the dead! As Midgard transforms under the rule of Malekith and his allies, the dead rise up to form a new Niffleheim! The Black Panther calls in every hero on his roster to fight for Earth, from Spider-Man and the Spiders of Hel to Ghost Rider and Balder the Brave. But if there’s any hope for the Ten Realms, it’ll come from the skies… (S) Jason Aaron (A) Russell Dauterman (CA) Arthur Adam

Smurfs Take> What I really enjoy about this story is the absolute destruction of the Earth that has gone on. The heroes out matched, out gunned, and out manned. Don’t get me wrong, this has been a great read thus far and has left the reader asking a lot of questions. Something I enjoy even more.

GL 8Green Lantern #8> Green Lantern teams up with Green Arrow to stop a cosmic drug cartel that’s using Earth as its main distribution base! It’s a  brilliant homage to the team-ups of old, as Morrison and Sharp do the 2019 version in a story we can only call “Space Junkies!” (S) Grant Morrison (A/CA) Liam Sharp

Smurfs Take> I know I have been rather quiet about this title. Every so often slipping it into the mix, but I don’t want this viewed as me not enjoying this book. To be perfectly honest I love this title and have been since the start. What Morrison has done is nothing short of spectacular! It’s dark, it’s deep, and it’s so wickedly cosmic I want it to be my own private story.  Now a get blast from the past by adding the Green Arrow…this only gets better.
