#NewComicsDay Smurfs High five is sponsored by All C’s Collectibles. Be sure to get to the local shop early because I have a feeling there will be a line at the door. News hit the Muggle Media about the end of a particular comic. Also it’s the final issue for Uncanny X-Men, don’t miss out on Justice League, and Cosmic Ghost Rider. Here are the top 5 from Smurf that will get you through the long weekend.
Walking Dead #193> “THE FARMHOUSE” Out in the countryside, trouble is brewing for a certain someone. (S) Robert Kirkman (A) Charlie Adlard
Smurfs Take> I talked about it on yesterdays podcast and I’m not sure where to start. Given the events of the last couple of issues this shouldn’t come as a shock and Kirkman always said that would be the end of the book if he killed off Rick. Is it really the final issue? Is this the last we have seen of these characters? With Kirkman you never know and that’s part of the problem, there might be another surprise around the corner. The book that changed it all, that saved Image, that broke so many things, and made so many things right. I was there at issue one and if it’s true and its over I have to say thanks for one hell of a ride.
Joker TP Black Label> FIRST TIME IN PAPERBACK! From writer Brian Azzarello and artist Lee Bermejo, the team behind the best-selling BATMAN: DAMNED, JOKER tells the story of one very dark night in Gotham City-a harrowing night of revenge, murder and crime as only The Joker can deliver it, as he brutally takes back his stolen assets from the Penguin, the Riddler, Two-Face, Killer Croc and others. (S) Brian Azzarello (A) Mick Gray (A/CA) Lee Bermejo
Smurfs Take> Holy Crap! What more can I say really? The Black Label has delivered some intense stories and I have loved the gritty nature of them. Now add the intensity and crazy of the Joker? This will be one of those books you read again right after finishing it I guarantee.
Sea of Stars #1> “LOST IN THE WILDS OF HEAVEN,” Part One: Being a space trucker sounds like a cool job, but in reality, it can be boring as hell. So when recently widowed Gil gets a long-haul gig across the universe, he figures it’s safe enough to bring his young son Kadyn along for the ride-that is, until their “big rig” gets bitten in half by a gigantic Space Leviathan! Now separated from his son-with a breached suit that’s venting oxygen at an alarming rate-Gil must defy the odds and stay alive long enough to rescue Kadyn. But meanwhile, Kadyn seems to be getting all the help he needs from a talking Space Monkey riding a Space Dolphin… or maybe it’s the strange powers he’s suddenly manifesting?! From the writing duo of JASON AARON (SOUTHERN BASTARDS, Thor) and DENNIS HALLUM (Cloak & Dagger, Vader: Dark Visions), with dazzling art by STEPHEN GREEN (Hellboy and the B.P.R.D.) and cosmic colors by RICO RENZI (Spider-Gwen), comes a brand-new science fiction series with all the scope and heart of the The Neverending Story crossed with the imaginative weirdness of Miyazaki-an intense, galaxy-spanning adventure that’s suitable for fans of all ages! (S) Jason Aaron, Dennis Hallum (A/CA) Stephen Green
Smurfs Take> This looks fantastic! So many thoughts and hopes for this title. Looks a bit like Lost in Space but with a bigger of a twist and a whole lot more crazy for good measure. I have complete faith in Jason Aaron, and have loved his Thor every step of the way. Do not leave this one behind, I for one am excited to see where he takes us now.
Deceased #3> Heroes, villains and gods have fallen. Cities have collapsed. The virus threatens to reach below the waves and even to the island of Themyscira. The race to save planet Earth is on! The surviving members of the Justice League have learned the secret to the spread of the virus, but is it already too late to stop it? (S) Tom Taylor (A) Stefano Guadiano (A/CA) Trevor Hairsine
Immortal Hulk #20> Bruce Banner is being hunted on two fronts by two dead loved ones turned nightmarish, implacable foes. The stage is set for a brutal three-way confrontation between the ABOMINATION… the HARPY …and the IMMORTAL HULK. (S) Al Ewing (A) Joe Bennett (CA) Alex Ross
Smurfs Take> Always a surprise when you read this book! Marvel may not be known for its horror books but this one gets you about as close as you can get. The story superb, the characters amazing, and the art that compliments it all so well!
