Smurfs High Five

#NewComicsDay After all of the midnight releases new titles and great stories I could use the break in a lighter week. Of course that isn’t going to stop Smurf from getting everything and letting you know what his #Top5 pick are for the week and something else he has his eye on. All of this and more is available at our sponsor’s location All C’s Collectibles.

once and future 1Once and Future #1> When a group of Nationalists use an ancient artifact to bring a villain from Arthurian myth back from the dead to gain power, ex-monster hunter Bridgette McGuire escapes her retirement home and pulls her unsuspecting grandson Duncan, a museum curator, into a world of magic and mysticism to defeat a legendary threat.
Bestselling writer Kieron Gillen (The Wicked + The Divine, Star Wars) and Russ Manning Award-winning artist Dan Mora (Buffy The Vampire Slayer, Klaus) explore the mysteries of the past, the complicated truths of our history and the power of family to save the day – especially if that family has secret bunkers of ancient weapons and decades of experience hunting the greatest monsters in Britain ‘s history! (S) Kieron Gillen (A/CA) Dan Mora

Smurfs Take> This looks great and I love the idea behind the story. It’s not over complicated, it’s not a hero book, yet it’s something familiar enough to pull you in. It should be a fun read.

surfer prodigal sun 1Silver Surfer Prodigal Sun #1> Continuing Prodigal’s journey home from FANTASTIC FOUR: THE PRODIGAL SUN #1, the one individual who can aid him in accomplishing it is the Silver Surfer. But Prodigal has a history with the Surfer. Witness that now as we see the Surfer, back when he was still the herald to Galactus, as Prodigal battles him to prevent Galactus from destroying an entire world because of his unending appetite. (S) Peter David (A) Francesco Manna (CA) Mico Suayan

Smurfs Take> I have enjoyed what Peter David is doing in Symbiote which wraps this week. His run on the Hulk and X-Factor are some of the best. He definitely knows how to tell a story so I am very interested to see what he does with a Surfer when he was still a herald. Surfer Black has been a hit for me and to see another Surfer story on the shelf would be fantastic.

superman 14Superman #14> Lex Luthor is back in Metropolis–and he’s ready to wreak havoc! First stop, the most dangerous woman in the DC Universe: Lois Lane! Alone, her family a galaxy away, will Lois be tempted by Apex Lex’s offer? What does Lex have that this reporter can’t turn away from? Don’t miss this shocking new twist in the Superman mythos! (S) Brian Michael Bendis (A/CA) Joe Prado, Ivan Reis

Smurfs Take> I have never enjoyed a Superman series this much…..Well ever. I can’t wait to see what we get for year of the villain since Lex is one of the key components to the story. This title is only going to get more intense!

powers of x 2Powers of X #2> As Xavier sows the seeds of the past, the X-Men’s future blossoms into trouble for all mutantdom. Superstar writer Jonathan Hickman (NEW AVENGERS, INFINITY, FF) continues reshaping the X-Men’s past, present and future with breakout artist R.B. Silva (UNCANNY X-MEN)! (S) Jonathan Hickman (A/CA) R. B. Silva

Smurfs Take> Better then what the X-books had out before but I have been down this road with Marvel one too many times. Start strong and unable to take it all the way to the end, and I really hope that isn’t the case here.

flash 76Flash #76> “Death of the Speed Force” begins! With renewed resolve following the events of “The Flash Year One,” the Flash is back with a new mission, a new outlook and a brand-new speedster HQ. But the Fastest Man Alive is slowing down-and there’s only one explanation: the Speed Force is dying. Plus, the Year of the Villain heats up as Captain Cold uses Lex Luthor’s offer to boost Heat Wave to the next level! (S) Joshua Williamson (CA) Howard Porter (A/CA) Rafa Sandoval, Jordi Tarragona

Smurfs Take> Year of the Villain and it’s kicked off with Captain Cold! Christmas has come early!

In his quest to protect the city, sometimes Batman  needs a vehicle to go where the Batmobile cannot. Enter the Batcycle. Smurfs Take> An added pick this week, I love this toy line and so happy they brought it back. But not only that they did but how they did it, the larger size is perfect. The details the accessories and just the terrific features that have been included it’s also been able to add characters I never thought I would see. This is one of those items and it just looks so perfect.
