Smurfs High Five

#NewComicsDay Fresh from another midnight release of yet another X-Men number one, Smurf has a few other titles you might want to consider. Especially since it’s a rather light week, in addition to Smurfs #Top5 be sure not to miss the latest Trees, Once & Future, and Guardians; Sponsored by All C’s Collectibles.

xmen 1X-Men #1> DAWN OF X!
The X-Men find themselves in a whole new world of possibility… and things have never been better! Jonathan Hickman (HOUSE OF X, POWERS OF X, SECRET WARS) and superstar artist Leinil Yu (NEW AVENGERS, CAPTAIN AMERICA) reveal the saga of Cyclops and his hand-picked squad of mutant powerhouses! (S) Jonathan Hickman (A/CA) Leinil Francis Yu

Smurfs Take> Hickman has done the unthinkable! He has pulled me back in as an X-Men reader. But here’s the deal, how long is it going to hold? How long is Marvel going to give it till they decide to monkey wrench it? Then we all are right back to this point again, but what I just finished reading in Powers and House of X was nothing short of masterful. Hickman has outdone himself and brought a title back from the dead for me.

batman 81Batman #81> It’s time for the big showdown. Batman is calling Bane out. But is the Dark Knight Detective ready to take on the foe who broke him worse than any other that came before? And what else stands in Batman’s way, to put an obstacle between him and his enemy? Tread lightly, Batman, because not only do the lives of your son and trusted friends hang in the balance, but your entire home could collapse on top of you! (S) Tom King (A/CA) John Romita, Klaus Janson

Smurfs Take> I have been waiting for this scrap for some time now and will be one of the first books I dive into. Granted the art leaves a little to be desired but it has been all about the story and I don’t want to leave any spoilers.

crazy1Crazy #1> MARVEL’S GREATEST…ER…MOST DEMENTED COMIC MAGAZINE
OBNOXIO THE CLOWN is back and so is one of MARVEL’S most hilarious titles thanks to a momentary lapse in sanity on the part of a few over-worked editors and a gang of writers and artists ready to take advantage of it. No super hero is safe! No comic book event is sacred! Will the Marvel Universe ever be the same? Will we want it to? (S) Gerry Duggan, Frank Tieri, More (A) Don Simpson, Scott Koblish, More (CA) E.M. Gist

Smurfs Take> You have to give Marvel credit that they are willing to try anything. Strictly for the nostalgia factor this has caught my eye and looks like it will be a fun ready and turn out to be a hotter book than anyone guessed. At least for the first couple of issues but one worthy of your time and you may find yourself laughing a little along the way.

justice league 34Justice League #34> “The Justice Doom War” part five! All Hypertime is breaking! If it blows, all of reality will follow after-which would be just fine for Lex Luthor, who is ready to prove to the evil goddess Perpetua that he’s the bad man for her. The Justice League is attempting to do what they can, chasing the Legion of Doom across the time-sphere. If the Totality is put back together, the whole Multiverse will tip toward Doom…and have consequences that reverberate throughout the DC Universe-assuming it’s not destroyed in the process. (S) James TynionIV, Scott Snyder (A) Jim Cheung (CA) Francis Manapul

Smurfs Take> Is it bad that I’m cheering on the Villains? What I have enjoyed the most about this is just how on the ropes all of the heroes have been put. Great to this point and want so much more and makes me wonder just how far they are going to take it.

metal Men 1Metal Men #1> The Metal Men are back! And back and back and back again, as we take a deep look into Doc Magnus’ lab as he experiments with what it means to be sentient. Meanwhile, a mysterious liquid Nth metal has appeared in the science site at Challengers Mountain that appears to have come through from the Dark Multiverse… (S) Dan DiDio (A) Michelle Delecki (A/CA) Shane Davis

Smurfs Take> When I was a kid I loved these guys! Over the years that interest has diminished and I’m not sure if it’s because of the limited range of the characters or just a lack luster take on them. I know DC has fought like hell to bring this book back from the recycling bin and maybe this will be the one to start it off but DiDio as the writer may not bring the life it’s been looking for.
