#NewComicsDay and Smurfs #Top5 is sponsored by All C’s Collectibles. The first comics of the December month are here as we close in on the end of 2019. That means loads of specials, the end of stories and the start to new ones. The clock is ticking down to Christmas and we just want to make sure you don’t miss any of the good stuff.
New Years Evil #1> Why hello there, readers! It’s your Uncle Joker letting you know that this year’s DC winter holiday special is not for the good guys. It’s all about the folks on Santa’s naughty list! Folks like me, Sinestro, Toyman, Harley Quinn, and even an appearance from that timely rascal the Calendar Man. Come sledding with your favorite villains in 10 fantastic tales created by comics’ finest talents. They’re not as funny as me, mind you, but it’s important that we be charitable this time of year. (S) Vita Ayala, Gabriel Hardman, Corinna Bechko, Dan Watters, Others (A) Dale Eaglesham, Gabriel Hardman, Sumit Kumar, Elena Casagrande, Others (CA) Jim Cheung
Smurfs Take> The Year of the Villain has been perfect so far and I always look forward to the DC Holiday specials. This is a fantastic twist, how do you write the holidays for the bad guys?
Thor the Worthy #1> LEGENDARY THOR CREATORS REUNITE FOR A THUNDEROUS CELEBRATION!
Walter Simonson’s Thor run is widely considered to be not only some of the best Thor comics of all time, but simply some of the best comics, period. Now the legend returns for a special tale about Thor and Beta Ray Bill – with art from Mike Hawthorne and beloved veteran Sal Buscema! And the trio is joined by yet another unforgettable Thor team: Tom DeFalco and Ron Frenz, who will be telling an all-new Thunderstrike story! Finally, no Thor story would be complete without his most trusted companion: the berserker, the warrior extraordinaire, the Lady Sif! Kathyrn Immonen wrote one of the landmark Sif tales in her run on Journey Into Mystery – and now she returns for a brand-new journey! (S) Walter Simonson, More (A) Ron Frenz, More (CA) Kim Jacinto
Smurfs Take> LEGEND! SIMONSON! Doing Thor again! There is nothing else to say except Christmas has come early and I couldn’t think of a better gift.
Stabbity Ever After Wonderland One Shot> Set outside the regular universe of the Stabbity Bunny regular series, this special alternative reality version takes Stabbity to the magical surroundings of Wonderland. As Stabbity and Grace find themselves in Wonderland, it almost appears that things are going smoothly, but of course, in this magical world everything isn’t as it seems as the queen of hearts discovers Grace’s magical powers and decides she wants them for herself. If you thought the carnage in Fairyland was shocking, you’d best be prepared to say farewell to a lot of your Wonderland favorites as Stabbity has the adventure of a lifetime. (S) Richard Rivera (A) Ryan Kincaid
Smurfs Take> I don’t have a lot to say on this. It’s odd, weird, slightly twisted, and I think that’s why I like it. I’m just really curious what they are going to do next because this is hilarious.
Conan Serpent War #1> THE WRATH OF THE SERPENT GOD!
WARRIORS ACROSS TIME DEFY THE ELDER GODS!
JAMES ALLISON will soon die. But it’s not his first death. He’s lived many lives, in many places – lives he can recall in vivid detail. But when an Elder God called the WYRM reaches across time to James, an ages-spanning quest begins! The serpent god SET plans to usher in an eternity of darkness, and only the chosen warriors across time and space have a hope of stopping him: CONAN THE BARBARIAN, SOLOMON KANE, DARK AGNES, and the man known as MOON KNIGHT!
In an unprecedented comics event, Robert E. Howard’s characters join forces along with Marvel’s Moon Knight, in an all-new saga built on REH and Marvel lore from across the ages! (S) Jim Zub (A) Scot Eaton (CA) Carlos Pacheco
Smurfs Take> The return of Conan to Marvel has been on point. At first I thought two titles might even be pushing it but was wrong. Reading both of them feels like a refresh of the classic style I loved as a kid and I hope the same is for this series. Adding him to the Marvel Universe has been a blast, like every What If come true but written way better.
Batman #84> “City of Bane” chapter eleven! The end is near as one victory leads to another defeat. As Batman reclaims his city from Bane, can he regain his sense of family? More specifically, when a man who is your father from another dimension has torn everything down around you, what will it take to build it back up? Especially when that man is currently staring you in the face and threatening to punch it. The final battle for Gotham City…and the cowl of the Caped Crusader…starts here! (S) Tom King (A/CA) Mikel Janin
Smurfs Take> Does it feel like this story has been going on forever? If it has I really don’t care, the details and setup have all been worth it. The story telling has been immersive and compelling eagerly awaiting every issue.
