Classic Rock Wednesday

#CLRW Just the other day I was sitting in the bullpen talking with one of the new interns. Through the conversation I found myself explaining some of the Hairbands of the 80’s, the value of a good power ballad, and of course who did it best. The list for this is long and full of some of the greatest bands of all time, while trying to avoid the easy choices I gave it some thought. Remembering the days of driving the convertible down, jean jacket collar up, and singing along at the top of our lungs. I know, paints an interesting picture but one that is the very backbone of the 80’s and while lost in a flashback of nostalgic youth it hit me. The song that was as simple and as powerful as the name of the band that made it.

After I came back to this decade I gave the intern a list of bands to sample but made sure they would start with this song specifically. It was one on my own mixtape and I find myself every so often giving it a listen since the song has long fallen off any playlist. Who can blame them? Not a lot of people remember Kix and even fewer have heard of them; and while their odds of making it into the hall of fame are slim “Don’t Close Your Eyes” will always be a classic with me. The song only reached number eleven on the charts but should be a must on any power ballads list and garners a spot in the top ten. I’m the Listener and for today’s Classic Rock Wednesday I give you a small look into my years gone by.
