Smurfs High Five

#NewComicsDay is here and it looks like a DC strong week to put it lightly. Here is what Smurf is looking to add to the stack that you might want to consider as well. Sponsored by All C’s Collectibles who is giving you a discount at checkout by mentioning this. Now get to the shop before the next wave of snow hits.

GL season 2 1Green Lantern Season 2 #1> The team of writer Grant Morrison and artist Liam Sharp continue their bold new take on the Emerald Warrior in a wild 30-page second season opener! In the wake of the Blackstar incursion, Hal Jordan and his fellow Lanterns must pick up the pieces from that cataclysmic conclusion. Among them is Jordan’s next critical mission: search for the next generation of cosmic immortals. Is the universe ready for…the Young Guardians? (S) Grant Morrison (A/CA) Liam Sharp

Smurfs Take> Even if I wasn’t a big BL fan this would still be at the top of the list for this week. Holy Hell! The story that Grant is telling is one for the ages and so unlike any we have seen for this title. This is a master at his craft and I couldn’t be happier with the outcome.

Pennyworth 1Batman Pennyworth RIP #1> Alfred Pennyworth served the Wayne family for decades-even through the tragic loss of Bruce Wayne’s parents. His death at the hands of Bane is the only event that could possibly compare to that fateful night in Crime Alley, and it leaves Bruce at a similar crossroads. If Alfred was the glue that held the Bat-Family together, how will Batman deal with that all falling apart? And if the Caped Crusader is to be truly alone, he might either hang that cape up once and for all…or double down and carry on with this vengeful quest forever. Batman: Pennyworth R.I.P. #1 celebrates the life of one of the most important people in the history of Gotham City, while also addressing questions about what’s next. (S) James TynionIV, Peter J. Tomasi (A) Eddy Barrows, Eber Ferreira, Others (CA) Lee Weeks

Smurfs Take> I still can’t believe they killed him off, I was expecting some kind of fake out. That it was Clay Face and they just wanted to mess with Batman but they really did it and here’s what happens next.

tartarus-1Tartarus #1> A new adventure series with all the sci-fi drama of Breaking Bad set in Mos Eisley! Promising young cadet Tilde is framed for crimes against the empire after discovering her mother was the ruthless warlord of the deadly colony Tartarus, a vital player in the galactic war. Now, Tilde’s only way home may be to reclaim her mother’s dark crown.#1 New York Times bestseller JOHNNIE CHRISTMAS (Alien 3) and artistic phenom JACK T. COLE (The Unsound) kick off this ongoing series with 44 big pages of story! (S) Johnnie Christmas (A) Jack T. Cole

Smurfs Take> So when I found out about this title I couldn’t wait for it to hit shelves. Looks great and has all of the elements you need for a great story. Breaking Bad in space! Hell Yeah!

mother of demons 1Spirits Ghost Rider Mother of Demons #1> BURNING OUT OF THE PAGES OF GHOST RIDER!
Since the dawn of man, she has birthed the worst of humanity’s ills… Her kin call her mama while men curse her name: LILITH! And when all the thrones of every netherworld are united, they shall call her by a new name: QUEEN. With art by definitive GHOST RIDER artist ROLAND BOSCHI! (S) Ed Brisson (A) Roland Boschi (CA) Philip Tan

Smurfs Take> Really starting to feel like the 90’s, just a little bit. I am loving the Ghost Rider title right now and having Lilith’s return is no surprise at all. Just starting to get that Midnight Sons feel, but this does look good and expands on the current story so for now I’m in.

nebula 1Nebula #1> Nebula has grown under the shadows of Thanos and Gamora, but no longer! With her eyes set on a top-secret device, Nebula has big plans for her future-and she’s not about to let anyone get in her way! But her goal may end up costing her more than she’s willing to pay after a showdown with one of the cosmos most feared bounty hunters….Don’t miss out on this cosmically critical series launch from rising stars, Vita Ayala (PRISONER X) and Claire Roe (FEARLESS)! (S) Vita Ayala (A) Claire Roe (CA) Jen Bartel

Smurfs Take> How far this character has come over the years. Thanks entirely on the films this obscure character has become a popular mainstream power house. There is so much they could do with her and a lot to fill in from the last time we saw her in the comics to now and I hope we get that here.

The EndHulk TP The End New Printing> Spider-Man no more? None of Miles Morales’ incredible powers could prevent his mother’s death or spare his father from a life-changing injury in a brutal fight against Venom. Miles is convinced he caused the tragedy – so in an emotion-filled decision, he has put away the costume, swearing never to fight as Spider-Man again! But when two new super-powered teenagers, Cloak and Dagger, emerge and the Taskmaster breaks up their fight with the juvenile delinquent Bombshell, innocent lives are at stake! It’s a job for someone with great power and great responsibility – but will that be Miles? And if he returns to the suit, will it be just in time for his universe to face Cataclysm? Plus: A celebration of the life of the Ultimate Peter Parker! Collecting ULTIMATE COMICS SPIDER-MAN #23-28, CATACLYSM: ULTIMATE SPIDER-MAN #1-3 and ULTIMATE SPIDER-MAN (2009) #200. (S) Peter David (A) George Perez (A/CA) Dale Keown

Smurfs Take> I was going to list The End down the road as one of my must haves for Trade Paperbacks but with this new printing coming out today hard to miss it. The original End story from back in the day and now with added stories on top of it. Great way to get this story for a good price because the last time I looked the first print of this was going for something close to $50. Also had the return of Dale Keown doing the art after he had left to go do Pitt at Image.
