Smurfs High Five

#NewComicsDay It’s been awhile since I have had this hard of a time deciding on what to put in the #Top5. With every new book thought that should be added and it easily could’ve been a DC dominated list. Fact is I like having these kinds of problems, too many comics to chose from and if you are worried something might not be there when you get in set up a “Hold Slot” at All C’s Collectibles. Nothing like having your comics waiting for you and shipping is available as well.

leviathan dawn 1Leviathan Dawn #1> Exploding out of the pages of the Event Leviathan miniseries, this all-new special blasts the DC Universe into a dangerous and brave new future! With Leviathan arrived, its leader’s identity revealed, and its plans known, what happens next? Now the heroes fight back! Leviathan changed the rules of the game, so now’s the time for the biggest players to get together and figure out a new strategy in this brave new world. It’s an extra-sized super-spy yarn from the Eisner Award-winning team of writer Brian Michael Bendis and artist Alex Maleev! (S) Brian Michael Bendis (A/CA) Alex Maleev

Smurfs Take> I’m excited for the story but starting to wear thin on the earth shaking limited series that will change the DC universe forever approach. True, no one does it better and their stories do go somewhere and have lasting effects but I would like a little breather before the next wave hits. Also starting to get lost when this is happening compared to everything else going on. But in Bendis we trust!

avengers wastelands 2Avengers of the Wastelands #2> HUNTING FOR DOOM!
DANI/THOR, DWIGHT/ANT-MAN, and HULK, JR. set off on a quest to save the Wastelands from DR. DOOM’s reign of terror! But can they succeed where OLD MAN LOGAN left off? And what does the return of CAPTAIN AMERICA herald for the team? (S) Ed Brisson (A) Jonas Scharf (CA) Juan Jose Ryp

Smurfs Take> The first issue was everything I expected and more. Road trips are always the best especially in a dysfunctional wasteland.

curse white knight 7Batman Curse of the White Knight #7> Bruce Wayne and Batman have come undone. Powerless after learning the truth behind his family’s name and legacy, Bruce prepares to shed all of his secrets and make one final appeal to the people of Gotham as Azrael takes control of the city. (S) Sean Murphy (A/CA) Sean Murphy

Smurfs Take> And we use to make fun of Azrael….Wow

TMNT Jennika 1TMNT Jennika #1> Trying to acclimate to life as a mutant, the newest Turtle Jennika embarks on a solo adventure that will force her to come to terms with both her troubled past and conflicted present. Not to mention a brand new villain! Brahm Revel (Guerrillas) returns to reveal more of Jennika’s backstory from his acclaimed TMNT Universe tale “What is Ninja?”! (S) Brahm Revel (A/CA) Brahm Revel

Smurfs Take> A NEW TURTLE! Something I thought they could never do…well successfully that is. It’s always been the four it’s just how it is and the new turtle is female. I think this is an awesome idea and excited to see how they expand her character.

Amethyst 1Amethyst #1> Following her triumphant reintroduction in the pages of Young Justice, the new Amethyst miniseries follows teenager Amy Winston-a.k.a. Princess Amethyst-as she returns to her magical kingdom to celebrate her 16th birthday in style. The only problem? Her kingdom is missing, her subjects have vanished, and none in the realm of Gemworld-even her best friend, Lady Turquoise-remain loyal to her house! Alone and dejected, Amy’s forced to find new allies and confront dark secrets on an all-new quest to the farthest reaches of Gemworld. (S) Amy Reeder (A/CA) Amy Reeder

Smurfs Take> I love Amy’s work and one of the main reasons I’m picking this up. I honestly had forgotten about this character from back in the day. Another reason why you never count out a character in the DC universe, should be a fun read.

Batgirl Frank cho statueDC Cover Girls Batgirl By Frank Cho Statue> Kicking off the newest series of DC Collectibles’ famous DC Cover Girls line is Batgirl, designed by popular cover artist Frank Cho. Cho’s clever take on Barbara Gordon gives a touch of humor to the piece. Any fan of Cho’s covers and art will not want to miss this statue, which introduces him as the new artist for the line.
* Limited to 5,000 pieces and individually numbered
* Statue measures 9.16″ tall
* Allocations may occur

Smurfs Take> I was wondering if DC was going to revisit this series and just who the artist would be. This is a fantastic choice of an artist to have statues based off. I have a feeling this will be a sought after line like the Adam Hughes series.
