Meat and Potatoes

jay and bob bannerBeing part of the Geek culture all my life, I have very fond memories of the early movies of Kevin Smith. “Clerks”, “Mallrats”, and “Jay and Silent Bob” movies were low budget films that spoke to a generation of geeks that helped us, not only laugh at ourselves but maybe actually accept ourselves for being a little different too. I mean up until “Clerks” I thought only me, and a very few friends were actually weird enough to argue “Star Wars” plot holes for days. Well Kevin Smith wrote and directed a new movie, “Jay and Silent Bob Reboot” and I am wondering why but I do have to see it.

*The MEAT* The story is exactly what the title says “Reboot”, so it is *Recycled and Redundant* to say the least. Now there are some funny jokes spread around, but they are too few and far between.

*The POTATOES* The acting was *Pretty Bad*. Not trying to be mean, it is just that these guys were never good actors to begin with and watching them get into characters that are over 26 years old now, well it is almost painful. Even Ben Affleck and Matt Damon looked like they did not want to be there. And not to mention Val Kilmer’s guest appearance, I did not know whether to laugh or cry.

*The VERDICT* Yes, “Jay and Silent Bob Reboot” was *Bad*, and that is why it never made it to theaters or even Pay-Per-View, no it went straight to Amazon Prime to be forever lost I guess. Maybe I am being a little too hard on it because it is a sad reminder of a great time that is gone forever now, and you really cannot just Reboot something like that. That said, I do recommend finding the old movie “Clerks” somewhere in the streaming verse because it does still hold up today and will take you back to that time again that the Reboot fails to do.

Did I mention that I am more than ready to go to the movie theater now! *sigh*
