Smurfs High Five

#NewComicsDay #NewComics the holiday weekend didn’t slow the quality flow of books this week that’s for sure. DC and Marvel more than make up for skipping a week delivering some heavy weight titles. Hard to say what to start with first but here are a few ideas with Smurfs #Top5 picks for the shelf this week. All C’s Collectibles is our sponsor and offering discounts if you open a hold slot with them, so you don’t miss out on any of the action.

batman 94Batman #94> The Designer’s machinations have left Batman’s life in tatters! Gotham City’s ambitious rebuilding has skittered to a halt as new powers are rising to shape its destiny—and Batman is powerless to stop them! With no Alfred or Bat-Family to lean on, the Dark Knight stands alone against the ascendance of his greatest adversary! (S) Tomeu Morey  (A) Rafael Albuquerque

Smurfs Take> I think this is going to be the story and most likely the title of the year. I don’t like throw claims like that out or even saying something like that but it’s just so difficult to resist with this. It’s been a long run of hit’s with every issue that comes out and the stage is set for a titanic blowout. And that’s the point, if the build is this intense what’s the actual war going to be like.

Empyre FF 0Empyre Fantastic Four #0> “The Last of the Kree/Skrull Warriors” – a pivotal issue, not just for EMPYRE, but for the future of the FF!
In the most unlikely of places, the Fantastic Four witness the final conflict of the Kree/Skrull War… and the fate of these final warriors will mark a stunning change in the lives of Marvel’s First Family for years to come.
All this, and the introduction of a long hidden Elder of the Universe… the Profiteer! Witness the first appearance of this new, major player in the cosmos! (S) Dan Slott (A) R. B. Silva (CA) Jim Cheung

Smurfs Take> It has been awhile since we had a good Skrull invasion story and what better way to bring the Fantastic Four back to the front of everyone’s mind. Kicking off the big summer event and crossover, I’m a little optimistic for this title maybe just itching for a good FF and cosmic story could be part of it. Maybe this has been one too many times? I mean how many Kree and Skrulls can be left at this point.

dead planet 1Dceased: Dead Planet #1> After a corrupted Anti-Life Equation turned billions into monsters—including Earth’s Greatest Heroes—our planet was as good as dead. Years later, a distress call brings Damian Wayne, Jon Kent and Cassie Sandsmark—the Batman, Superman, and Wonder Woman of Earth 2—back to a dead planet…but what will this new Justice League find waiting for them? If life still exists on Earth, who—or what—is lying in wait for these heroes? The original creative team of Tom Taylor and Trevor Hairsine reunite for the sequel to the 2019 blockbuster series DCeased! (S) Tom Taylor (A) Trevor Hairsine

Smurfs Take> I like going back to this world..a lot as a matter of fact. There is so much that could be explored with this universe, and a lot darker characters to be uncovered. I know I’m usually the first one to say this sort of revisiting is just milking a good idea with no real substance but I truly think this could be something epic.

strange AcadmyStrange Academy #2> Go to class with the students at STRANGE ACADEMY! Your class schedule:
•  10:35-11:35 GYM with COACH TAYLOR
•  11:40-12:10 LUNCH (cooked by MINDFULL ONE)
•  1:30-2:30 INFERNO 101 with MAGIK
•  2:40-3:20 (Pending survival) STUDY HALL
•  3:30-4:30 MAGICAL PLANTS AND THE CARE THEREOF with PROFESSOR MAN-THING (S) Skottie Young (A/CA) Humberto Ramos

Smurfs Take> Been so long since I read issue one almost forgot the whole damn thing. Of all the new series and team books to start this year I was looking the most forward to this one. I know it’s basically X-Men with Doctor Strange in charge but that’s what’s great about it and the little twists that keep you entertained. We are always saying we want something new with the comfort of the old, and this would be it.

adventureman 2Adventureman #2> The mysterious disappearance of the original Adventureman gets a little more complicated when, in the modern era, single mom Claire Connell stumbles into his legacy. But with the adventuremantle come untold dangers from those who would seek to destroy it! (S) Matt Fraction (A/CA) Terry Dodson, Rachel Dodson

Smurfs Take> This was a great first issue! I think this hit just at the perfect time delivering something fresh and fun with some classic elements of great story telling. Perfect characters blended with the right balance of mystery and not a single cape to be seen. Want something new? This is your book!
