Dark Nights: Death Metal #2> Get ready to scream! Wonder Woman roars across the horrifying Dark Multiverse landscape in the world’s most demented monster truck, with Swamp Thing riding shotgun! The two arrive at the ghoulish cemetery base of Batman and his army of zombies, but can the former friends stand each other long enough to form a plan and take back the planet? Plus, what’s Lobo doing in space? Don’t miss the second chapter of the wildest ride in the DC Universe, from the epic team of writer Scott Snyder and artist Greg Capullo! (S) Scott Snyder (A) Greg Capullo
Smurfs Take> Wild would be one word for it, as Snyder & Capullo give us an entirely different take on just about every DC character possible. I’m pulled in by the drastic differences and just odd mashing’s that are going on with a bit of morbid curiosity of what they are going to do next. Come on…Swamp Thing riding shotgun that’s just too good to pass up.
Strange Adventures #3> Can Adam Strange handle the truth? After the cosmic adventurer was accused of murder and had his whole record as a soldier questioned, he turned to Batman for help clearing his name. But someone else was needed to ensure that the investigation would be truly impartial. Enter Mr. Terrific, the man for whom “Fair Play” is a credo to live by. Be careful what you wish for, Adam Strange, because your life is about to be turned upside down. This could be one of the greatest tests you’ve ever faced. Like when you had to prove yourselves in Rann’s gladiatorial arena. This adventure between two worlds continues, with Mitch Gerads drawing the gritty Earth sequences and Doc Shaner showing us the splendor of Adam Strange’s battles in outer space! (S) Tom King (A) Evan Shaner, Mitch Gerads
Smurfs Take> A surprise hit for me, didn’t expect a whole lot out of this series and so happy with the story and direction. I never thought of Adam Strange as a difficult character to write for but it seems to have been the case till now. It feels like a whole new life has been instilled into him, so worth the read and want to see more of this.
Giant Sized X-Men Magneto #1> HICKMAN & OLIVER MASTER MAGNETISM!
Jonathan Hickman continues his one-shots showcasing some of Marvel’s best artists! This time, he teams with Ben Oliver (ULTIMATE X-MEN,THUNDERBOLTS) to bring a tale of Krakoan Ambassador and Master of Magnetism, Magneto! Krakoa may be only for mutants, but mutants still
need to deal with the human world around them. Magneto has a plan for that. (S) Jonathan Hickman (A) Ramon K. Perez (CA) Ben Oliver
Smurfs Take> Bad Ass! That’s all that comes to mind when I look at this from the creative team to one of the best characters in the Marvel Universe.
Empyre #1> The Kree and the Skrulls have united under a new emperor – and their war fleet is on a collision course for our world. On the moon, the Avengers are ready to strike with the full power of Earth’s Mightiest Heroes. Approaching from outer space, the Fantastic Four are seeking a diplomatic solution. If the two teams can’t work together to save the day, things can only get worse… (S) Al Ewing, Dan Slott (A) Valerio Schiti (CA) Jim Cheung
Smurfs Take> I’m optimistic about this, I think the idea and concept is spectacular as Marvel does something that DC is always so good about. Taking a character we have forgotten or just a little obscure and bringing them front and center with an explosive story. I want this to be good, and I think it can be but will this suffer the fate of so many other Marvel series, strong start but fails to deliver. There is something for everyone, with a lot of different teams and stories for all so fingers crossed.
The Old Guard: Force Multiplied #5> Ancient enemies, new allies, a history of violence, and modern warfare all come to a head, as Andy and Nile reconcile the sins of the past with the promise of the future…and carnage ensues. Soon to be a major motion picture starring Charlize Theron and KiKi Layne, THE OLD GUARD roars back! From the acclaimed New York Times-bestselling team of GREG RUCKA and LEANDRO FERNÁNDEZ and the stellar artistic talents of DANIELA MIWA, JODI WYNNE, and ERIC TRAUTMANN. (S) Greg Rucka (A) Leandro Fernandez
Smurfs Take> It’s a wonderful thing when you can be surprised in this day and age. For the first time in a very long while I wanted to read the book because of the movie. To be completely honest I didn’t even know the Netflix movie was based on a comic till after I watched it and was eager to read and find out more. The movie was great, the series so far has been great….so thanks Netflix.
