Smurfs High Five

#NewComicsDay it’s really feast or famine week to week as the heavy hitters take the shelves, and I do mean heavy. But that large shadow might mean you don’t notice Bounty Hunters, Suicide Squad, Speedmetal, and Spidey Noir also out this week. Smurfs High Five is sponsored by the All C’s Fan Expo that is free to the public happening in less than two weeks. Now here’s Smurfs take on the #top5 eyecatchers waiting for pick up at your local shop.

Juggernaut #1> READY OR ‘NAUT, HERE HE COMES!
A mystic gem. A force of overwhelming power. Nothing can stop the Juggernaut. Except himself. Another building falls. Cain Marko is done letting others pick up the pieces of the things he’s destroyed. Renowned X-scribe Fabian Nicieza (X-FORCE, DEADPOOL) and celebrated artist Ron Garney (CAPTAIN AMERICA, DAREDEVIL) team up to take the unstoppable in a new bold new direction! (W) Fabian Nicieza (A) Ron Garney (CA) Geoff Shaw

Smurfs Take> “NO FORCE ON EARTH CAN STOP THE JUGGERNAUT!” There is just something about this character that pulls me to him. Maybe it’s that ridiculous helmet? I miss the days of him and Black Tom running together but it seemed like a natural progression for Juggernaut when he joined the X-Men but was too short lived. I think there was so much more they could have done, but like many Marvel characters I don’t think people know how to write for him. This series gives me hope that isn’t true.

Immortal She-Hulk #1> IN THE WAKE OF EMPYRE, JEN WALTERS GOES IMMORTAL!
The Cotati invasion has changed everything for Jennifer Walters. Now she seems to have a new lease on life…but things are never that simple for the gamma-powered. Al Ewing gives She-Hulk the “IMMORTAL” treatment with a horrifying stand-alone tale! (S) Al Ewing (A) Jon Davis-Hunt (CA) Joe Bennett

Smurfs Take> Well this has the last series beat; She Hulk shows up on the first page. To say the last series was a major disappointment would be underselling it as we went issues without her and I think that’s a major miss. Part of the allure of the character is Jen trying to balance both of her lives or choosing one and sticking to it. I think Marvel has neglected this character far too long both in the comics and cinematic world and this looks to be the perfect steps to correct that.

Flash #762> “Finish Line” finale! Barry Allen and the Reverse-Flash race for the last time in this fast-paced conclusion. For years, Eobard Thawne has tormented Barry Allen, and now the Flash knows the only way to win is to make sure the Reverse-Flash never runs again! The story years in the making comes to a close as Joshua Williamson finishes his epic 101-issue run on The Flash! (S) Joshua Williamson  (A) Howard Porter

Smurfs Take> Well last issue didn’t disappoint. This series has continued to be a hit for me issue after issue and it doesn’t look like that’s going to stop any time soon. Such a well crafted story that has kept me hooked and engaged with some great twist and turns. This should be on everyone’s pull.

Maestro #2> PART TWO: THINGS GET UGLY!
The world as we know it is long gone – but the Hulk we know and love will never die. Humans killed the Earth…and now the Hulk must choose whether to save it or doom it forever. Peter David’s legendary saga continues with an action-packed tale of irradiated destruction! Plus: Just how did Rick Jones gather all the weapons and collectibles of his super-heroic generation? Hulk veteran artist Dale Keown reveals secrets decades in the making! (S) Peter David (A) German Peralta (A/CA) Dale Keown

Smurfs Take> Interesting start and not exactly what I had pictured, but then again wasn’t sure what to expect. Seeing these two expand on their classic story is exciting and had a certain flow that other comics seem lacking in. Best of all, going to get some answers complemented by some stellar art.

Fantastic Four Antithesis #2> The Silver Surfer leads the Fantastic Four in a mad race to find the missing Galactus. Only he has the power to defeat Antithesis – the Negative Zone version of Galactus himself! (S) Mark Waid (A) Neal Adams (CA) Nick Bradshaw

Smurfs Take> Great start! Neal’s art is on point! All the right feels of a classic FF story, the art, just so happy with this that I had to read it twice.
