#NewComicsDay is a bit of a lighter week giving us a chance to catch up or venture into something different. DC does have a few horror inspired stories hitting the shelves you might want to consider while Marvel shows off it’s mutant might. What ever you might be in the mood for our sponsor All C’s collectibles has it and ready to get it in your hand. Smurf has a few ideas of what you can start with his #top5 picks.
Strange Adventures #6> How determined is Mr. Terrific to find the truth? The answer becomes more challenging as the whole world starts to turn against him. Adam Strange is a hero who can save the Earth from alien invasion, and who is Mr. Terrific to say otherwise? The extent of the denial only makes the man more suspicious. Not that the warmongering Pykkts care one way or the other. If Strange is to be believed, they only have one thing on their minds: taking over the planet. Adam and his wife beat them back once before, and the key to doing it again is to dig into the past that Mr. Terrific is so hell-bent on destroying. Read the series IGN calls one of the most anticipated comics of the year! (S)Tom King (A) Evan “Doc” Shaner, Mitch Gerada
Smurfs Take> Absolutely one of DC’s best titles right now! This is checking every box for me right now with one of the best stories I could have imagined for both Mr. Terrific and Adam Strange. I always wanted more for Strange in the way of story and this has blown me away!
Amazing Spider-Man #50> “LAST REMAINS” STARTS HERE!
THE AMAZING SPIDER-MAN reaches another landmark and we’re celebrating Spider-Style! Spider-Man just took the beating of his life and we’re just getting started. Artist Patrick Gleason is back on AMAZING SPIDER-MAN ushering in the saga that is “LAST REMAINS”! Kindred is stepping out on stage for the first time and Spider-Man is not ready for the havoc that Kindred is going to let loose. (S) Nick Spencer (A/CA) Patrick Gleason
Smurfs Take> Last issues didn’t disappoint, promised a blow out and that is exactly what we got. Now where do we go from here? Spencer is ramping up to something even bigger than what we have seen and I’m kind of excited to see what that is.
Green Lantern Season Two #8> War with the Anti-Matter World! The cliffhanger to Season One led to this cataclysmic confrontation! We saw that only one anti-matter soldier could decimate a small army of Green Lanterns. What happens when a horde of them strike? (S) Grant Morrison (A) Liam Sharp
Smurfs Take> Oh man oh man oh man! This is what I have been waiting for since the end of that last series. A decent fight with something other than another Lantern. I know Morrison may not be for everyone but the story he’s told in the pages of GL have been masterfully crafted. Something different and unexpected that the title desperately needed lifting it to new heights.
Star Wars Darth Vader #6> THE PUNISHMENT!
DARTH VADER failed to turn his son, Luke Skywalker, to the dark side of the Force.
No…Luke was too weak to join his father in overthrowing EMPEROR PALPATINE. Vader sought revenge against those who hid Luke from him for all of these years…
and in doing so nearly betrayed his master. It did not go unnoticed by Palpatine… time for Vader’s next lesson. (S) Greg Pak (A) Raffaele Ienco (CA) In-Hyuk Lee
Smurfs Take> How dark can the dark side really be? Guess we are about to find out, and get the answer to a question that I have always wondered about at the end of Empire. Every month I get a little bit more on one of the best villains of all time and it’s spectacular.
Once & Future #12> The veil between the Otherworld and the human world is thin, and as the story changes around Duncan and Gran, each foe becomes harder to defeat…and predict. They may be holding the line, but enemies both new and old are closing in fast, and even Gran and Duncan may not be prepared for what’s next! (S) Kieron Gillen (A/CA) Dan Mora
Smurfs Take> Twelve issues in and still going strong, and in fact no sign of taking their foot off the gas. This was a surprise hit for me when I first picked it up and recommended it here. I never thought it would be as good as it is or keep me as engaged as it has, but here we are. If you haven’t picked this up you should or at the very least read the trade for the first few issues, really worth the read.
Doomsday Clock The Complete Collection> The story you thought you’d never see-now collected in one volume! The world of Watchmen collides with the DC Universe, as presented by master storytellers Geoff Johns and Gary Frank (Shazam!: Origins, Batman: Earth One). Seven years after the events of Watchmen, Adrian Veidt has been exposed as the murderer of millions. Now a fugitive, he has come up with a new plan to redeem himself in the eyes of the world. The first step? Finding Dr. Manhattan. Alongside a new Rorschach and the deadly new duo Mime and Marionette, he follows Manhattan’s trail into the DC Universe-which is on the brink of collapse as international tensions push the “Doomsday Clock” ever closer to midnight. Is this all Dr. Manhattan’s doing? Collects Doomsday Clock #1-12.
Smurfs Take> This was waaaaaay more involving than I thought it was going to be and now a must read trade for me. I know I had my doubts ad might have had a few negative things to say just before it started but….wow. Art, story, characters, just all of it…wow. I’m glad to see it in a trade so I can just experience it all again in one go cause…wow.
