Smurfs High Five

#NewComicsDay is here and it’s huge! If Smurfs #Top5 picks are not enough for you be sure to check out the final issue of Batgirl, Death Metal New Gods, or maybe Stranger Things, and X of Swords. Point is there are a short box worth of choices this week, lots to read and our sponsor All C’s Collectibles is happy to help you get these necessary titles and more.

TMNT The Last Ronin #1> It’s the TMNT event of 2020! Springing from the minds of TMNT co-creators Kevin Eastman and Peter Laird comes an epic like you’ve never seen before! In a future NYC far different than the one we know today, a lone surviving Turtle goes on a seemingly hopeless mission to obtain justice for his fallen family and friends. Kinetic layouts from Eastman, inks from Esau and Isaac Escorza and a thrilling script full of surprises from longtime TMNT scribe Tom Waltz all combine to make this one of the most memorable TMNT stories you will ever read!
Oversized in both format and page count, this is a perennial TMNT tale that can’t be missed!” (S) Kevin Eastman, Peter Laird, Tom Waltz (A/CA) Kevin Eastman, Esau Escorza, Issac Escorza

Smurfs Take> Who is the last turtle standing? What was the fate of his other three brothers? Sooooo many questions and sooooo excited to dive into this book as the fans have some of their dreams come true with Eastman and Laird back together again for the final story. We could be looking at story of the year right here…just saying and there are a lot of different variant covers for this book so choose wisely.

Hellboy & BPRD Return of Effie Kolb #2> Following Hellboy’s strange encounter with the new residents of the Crooked Man’s home, a young spiritual sensitive still feels that something bad is going on in the old Virginia mansion . . . and she’s right.
Prepare for monsters and mayhem in the second half of Mike Mignola’s return to the story of “The Crooked Man,” with artist Zach Howard and colorist Dave Stewart! (S) Mike Mignola (A/CA) Zach Howard

Smurfs Take> It wouldn’t be Halloween without a Hellboy story. Continuing the fantastic story from issue one, this has to be my new favorite creative dream team. Was absolutely impressed and eager for more, the only bad thing is it’s limited to just two issues. Have to say, this is a must for any Hellboy fan or even the slightest bit of interest because it will make a believer out of you with a huge appreciation for the character.

Strange Academy #4> TAG, YOU’RE IT! The students at the Strange Academy blow off their homework for the craziest game of tag ever. Every door of Strange Academy holds a surprise – one takes you to Dr. Strange’s Sanctum Sanctorum, another to Weirdworld, another to Asgard; and some doors’ destinations are unknown even to Strange himself. The students plan on stepping through every door, and at least one of the students will bear some significant consequences of their actions. (S) Skottie Young (A/CA) Humberto Ramos

Smurfs Take> Everything the X-Men wish they were and more. There are so many great elements to this title and we are still just starting out. It’s creative, fun, and the underlining humor is perfect. I know I had my doubts when it started, and figured first couple issues and I would be out, but I have got to say, this is a really solid title.

Batman Three Jokers #3> The final chapter of the most terrifying and personal Batman mystery is here! Still reeling from their last encounter with the three Jokers, Batman, Batgirl, and Red Hood discover the terrible truth about the Three Jokers’ plot. Will the caped crusaders have the strength needed to put an end to the maniacal menaces’ master plan once and for all, or will it be lights out for good? You won’t want to miss the stunning conclusion of Batman: Three Jokers as it completes its trajectory as the ultimate examination of The Joker and his never-ending conflict with Batman. (S) Geoff Johns (A) Jason Fabok

Smurfs Take> I want to like this story. I want to say I have enjoyed the first couple of issues. Well the first one was good, and the art is some of the best DC has offered up, but after last issue I’m just left scratching my head more than excitement for the next and final installment. Maybe it all comes together? Perhaps it will all make sense once I can step back and see the whole picture and I need to reserve judgment till then.

Fantastic Four Antithesis #3> Without Galactus, there’s only one way the Fantastic Four can hope to stall the threat of Antithesis – by absorbing the Power Cosmic to multiply their abilities a thousandfold! (S) Mark Waid (A/CA) Neal Adams

Smurfs Take> Have really been enjoying this story, the art, all of it…just warm happy feels.
