Smurfs High Five

#NewComicsDay the first batch of books for 2021 hits the shelves today, and it’s a great day to be a reader. Lots of choices, so many fresh stories to chose from and Smurf is here to get you started on the right foot with his #Top5 picks that require your attention. We are sponsored by All C’s Collectibles who is offering cash for all of your unneeded collectible items. Now lets see what must read treasures Smurf has for us today.

It’s put up or shut up time with KORVAC as the android mastermind begins the next phase of his ascent toward absolute power, and IRON MAN begrudgingly decides to finally ask for help. But…from who? As he takes charge of new allies and tries to use HELLCAT’s weakened state to his advantage, Tony Stark might instead risk everyone’s life including his own, especially when he confronts Korvac himself, one on one. (S) Christopher Cantwell (A) CAFU (CA) Alex Ross

Smurfs Take> I never thought I would have this Iron Man again. After so many attempts Marvel has finally gotten it right with this character and I couldn’t be happier.

Crossover #3> “KIDS LOVE CHAINS,” Part Three-Monsters and robots falling from the sky! Mysterious (and familiar??) superheroes joining our intrepid gang on their journey to event ground zero! CROSSOVER continues with the series’ most explosive and shocking issue to date! Don’t miss this one, folks.
If you do, it just might drive you…mad. (S) Donny Cates (A/CA) Geoff Shaw, Dee Cunniffe, John J. Hill

Smurfs Take> What a odd fun little comic this is! This is every wild thought and what if you have ever had brought to life and we are only a couple of issues in. A complete blast to read and feels like anything is possible at the moment as they get everything established. Read this!

Future State: The Next Batman #1> Gotham City has always been dangerous, but now, it’s downright deadly! Following the tragedy of “A-Day,” the mayor allowed the private law enforcement group known as the Magistrate to take over policing so-called mask crime—and that has given rise to a new Dark Knight! What is this mysterious crimefighter’s connection to former Batman weaponeer Lucius Fox? The fight for justice has never been this dangerous!

Then, in a new tale of the Outsiders, everything in Gotham City may be under the thumb of the Magistrate, but even members of that totalitarian force know that the outskirts of town are protected by the sword of Katana!

Plus, ride with the Arkham Knights on their quest for freedom. Arkham Asylum has been decommissioned and the Magistrate rules the land with an iron fist and zero tolerance. Now it’s time for the lunatics to take back their town! Follow Croc, Two-Face, Phosphorus, Zsasz, Clayface and Astrid Arkham as the Arkham Knights raise holy hell on the occupiers of Gotham!

(S) Ken Kristensen, Brandon Thomas, Paul Jenkins, John Ridley

Smurfs Take> I have many thoughts regarding Future State and not all of them good. I know DC feels like it needs to fix what isn’t really broken. Are they setting something larger up? Is it just something fun to stretch the creative legs? As fans we always want to know what happens and this is a creative way of getting that. I’m sure it will be better than Gordon in the suit, and I do want to see just what they have come up with it could be fun.

But the God of Thunder is about to bring down a bloody rain! Trapped in a suburban horror show, THOR faces down an old foe. But something far worse than the Midgard Serpent is sinking its fangs into Thor’s world…for DONALD BLAKE now roams the TEN REALMS with naught but death on the brain! (S) Donny Cates (A) Nic Klein (CA) Olivier Coipel

Smurfs Take> I have been waiting for someone to do this story and can’t wait to dive in. If your new year resolution is trying new things this should be one of them because this has been awesome since issue one and I don’t see it slowing down.

What’s the point of an eternal battle?
For millions of years, one hundred Eternals have roamed the Earth, secret protectors of humanity. Without them, we’d be smears between the teeth of the demon-like Deviants. Their war has waged for all time, echoing in our myths and nightmares.
But today, Eternals face something new: change. Can they – or anyone on Earth – survive their discovery?
From the thought provoking minds of Kieron Gillen (The Wicked + The Divine, Uncanny X-Men, Thor) and Esad Ribi? (Secret Wars, King Thor) comes a new vision of the classic Marvel mythology! (S) Kieron Gillen (A/CA) Esad Ribic

Smurfs Take> Another Eternal book. I know Marvel keeps trying with these characters and series in hopes of it catching on…catching fire but I don’t know if it will. Don’t get me wrong I would love to see the series take off, and maybe with the movie looming off in the distance it’s exactly what this title needs. It looks great and I’m compelled by the story to give it a try just to see what they do with the characters.
