Smurfs High Five

#NewComicsDay Future State is in full swing, Marvel has the Black King and more going on and mix in some great Image titles for good measure leads to a very full week of titles waiting for you at the local shop. Smurf has his starting points picked out and ready to share, sponsored by All C’s Collectibles who are offering cash for the collectibles you’re ready to part with. Now, how about those new comics:

Future State: Dark Detective #1> The world thought Bruce Wayne was dead. They were dead wrong! When the sinister para-military organization known as the Magistrate seizes control of Gotham City, the original Batman went big to put them down…but even the Dark Knight couldn’t predict how far this evil force would go to stop him. Now, Bruce Wayne is on the run! From Eisner Award-winning writer Mariko Tamaki and rising star artist Dan Mora, it’s the story of a Batman pushed to the brink-with nothing left to lose. Also in this issue, Grifter is back! Cole Cash is having a bad day, and that’s not going to improve when the detectives of the GCPD show up! Will a chance meeting with Luke Fox change his luck? Or is his day about to get a lot worse? (S) Matthew Rosenberg, Mariko Tamaki (A) Dan Mora, Carmine Di Gaindomenico

Smurfs Take> One of the more compelling titles coming out of the Future Stateline up  in my opinion. I know we have see Batman dead, or on the run in the past but this seems to fit so much better as part of the fallout from Joker War.

Chris Claremont Anniversary Special #1> Celebrate Chris Claremont’s enormous impact on your favorite Marvel comics of the past five decades with an all-new story! Dani Moonstar is drafted for a mission across time and space for an incredible psychic showdown against the Shadow King-joining forces with characters created and defined by the pen of Chris Claremont! (W) Chris Claremont (A) Brett Booth, Bill Sienkiewicz, More (CA) Todd Nauck

Smurfs Take> What would the X-Men be without Chris Claremont? The list of great stories, characters, fights, and development that set up titles for years to follow is mind blowing. Creator. Legend. I could go on but to put it simply we all have our favorite Claremont story and his work will stand the test of time.

Future State Green Lantern #1> Assigned to map and contact new lifeforms past the 3,600 known sectors of space protected by the Green Lantern Corps, John Stewart and an elite team of Lanterns are trapped behind enemy lines and fighting for their lives when the Central Power Battery goes dark and leaves the entire corps defenseless. Meanwhile, across the cosmos, Green Lantern Jessica Cruz finds herself powerless and forced to battle the invading Yellow Lanterns of the Sinestro Corps, and Guy Gardner, trapped on distant world, decides to reopen Warriors Bar. (S) Clayton Henry, Tom Raney, Sami Basri (A) Ryan Cady. Ernie Altbacker, Geoffrey Thorne

Smurfs Take> Well, it’s no surprise that the battery is down again for updates, maintenance, forgot to plug it in, what ever the reason is this time but I’m interested to read this one. Just to see what some of the members would do stranded, especially Guy running a bar again….maybe a fry cook on Venus. Should be a fun read with the focus on members other than Hal.

King In Black Thunderbolts #1> KINGPIN’S KILLERS VERSUS AN ARMY OF UNKILLABLE DRAGONS!
An army of evil space dragons have come to attack Earth and are starting with New York. MAYOR FISK has a plan for that. Assembling a group of killers, mercenaries, and just generally pretty horrible people like TASKMASTER, RHINO, STAR, MR. FEAR, and BATROC THE LEAPER, Mayor Fisk tasks them with saving the city or die trying…or die right then and there. The fate of the entire world may rest in the hands of the absolute worst people in the Marvel Universe. What could go wrong? (S) Matthew Rosenberg (A) Juan Ferreyra (CA) Kyle Hotz

Smurfs Take> I normally don’t buy into the whole event spinoff titles that Marvel has the habit of throwing out but this one caught my attention. This one is just to good to pass up on, Kingpin is Mayor and has his own team of Thunderbolts. That right there had me sold on this book, this could be the start of something wonderful.

Star Wars Darth Vader #9> THE ASSASSIN RETURNS!
In his search for vengeance in the depths of MUSTAFAR, DARTH VADER has seized the mysterious key to the EMPEROR’S greatest secret. But the key itself needs a key – which only the deadly assassin OCHI OF BESTOON seems to have. Vader and Ochi are in for the fight of their lives with the fate of the Emperor in the balance – but how much of this is all PALPATINE’S plan? And what happens when the SITH LORD and the SITH ASSASSIN start to figure that plan out? (S) Greg Pak (A) Raffaele Ienco (CA) Aaron Kuder

Smurfs Take> I have really enjoyed the deep exploration of Vader, expanding a character that we thought we knew. One of the best Star Wars titles on the shelf, no doubt about it.

47 Ronin TP> The tale of these samurai and their epic mission to avenge their wronged master is the story of Japan. Opening with the tragic incident that sealed the fate of Lord Asano, 47 Ronin follows a dedicated group of his vassals on their years-long path of vengeance! (S) Mike Richardson (A/CA) Stan Sakai

Smurfs Take> A trade worth the read I my opinion and something a little different from the typical Capes.
