Smurfs High Five

#NewComicsDay it’s another glorious day in the land of comics…even if it might be a little behind schedule. Due to weather this week your local shop might not have received their books yet so you might want to call ahead to confirm they are in. While you wait, here are Smurfs #Top5 picks sponsored by All C’s Collectibles who are auditioning wrestlers for their new ACW League details on the page. Now on to the countdown:

Maestro War and Pax #2> DEUS IN DEUS!
The Maestro thought he was the biggest supernatural force left on the planet – but he’s not the only would-be immortal around! The Pantheon sees all…including a Hulk too powerful to leave alive. (S) Peter David (A) Javier Pina (CA) Dale Keown

Smurfs Take> I always wondered whatever happened to the Pantheon after they up and ditched the Hulk. I should have figured Peter David wouldn’t just let them slip away into obscurity. I know I have mentioned this in the past, but damn  I have miss him writing for the Hulk! What I love the most is we get to see a deeper dive into the making of the Maestro, where everything went so wrong, and who was still around. It’s perfect.

Cross Over #4> “KIDS LOVE CHAINS,” Part Four-Hey kids, time for a field trip! Journey to the strange land of magical Colorado as our intrepid team of heroes searches for a way to shatter the dome and expose the truth behind THE EVENT!! Also: Man, how about that last issue, right? Crazy. (S) Donny Cates (A/CA) Geoff Shaw, Dee Cunniffe, John J. Hill

Smurfs Take> I’m enjoying this book more than I think I should, so odd and just fun. I mean….people do read comics just for fun still right? I have no idea where it’s going or what the larger picture is going to look like when we get there but if it entertains me along the way who am I to complain. The fantasy doors are blown open on this one so sit down and enjoy.

Future State: Dark Detective #4> Bruce Wayne may be a dead man in the eyes of the villainous Magistrate, but this dark detective isn’t through yet! In this pulse-pounding finale, Bruce makes his final move and comes face to face with the man at the top of Gotham’s oppressive regime, Peacekeeper One! With bombs planted and the trap waiting to be sprung, this final battle will decide the fate of Gotham City once and for all… And after the events of the last “Red Hood” chapter, Jason Todd is a wanted man. He got too close to the mystery of the new Red Hood Gang, and that forced the Magistrate to take extreme measures-because no one can know the truth. Hurt and alone, Jason must turn to some unlikely allies if he’s going to survive! (S) Joshua Williamson, Mariko Tamaki (A) Giannis Milonogiannis, Dan Mora

Smurfs Take> I’m still a little fuzzy on the whole purpose of the Future State. There have been some good stories and not so good ones, DC just really loves to punish it’s characters I think is the message. I know that regardless how this whole things ends we go back to the current time but just know all of this is looming off in the distance…or is it. I really have enjoyed the direction this title took during it’s tiptoe into the possible and could see this as a viable direction.

Scumbag #5> Ernie discovers that the world is full of bad people doing bad things, but can he ditch a lifelong apolitical lifestyle and help the good guys win, or will he continue to be an apathetic, self-serving scumbag? (S) Rick Remender (A) Wes Craig

Smurfs Take> Words fail me to paint the complete picture to describe this title. It’s not what I expected, it’s out there, and just delightfully…..off.

Marvels Voices Legacy #1> CELEBRATING BLACK HISTORY MONTH IN MIGHTY MARVEL STYLE!
Black Panther. Storm. Blade. Falcon. Ironheart. Luke Cage. Spectrum. And so many more. Marvel’s incredible legacy of black heroes gets the star treatment in this action-packed special! New and established creators take on their favorite heroes in a dizzying array of stories designed to inspire and uplift! The Marvel’s Voices program is your #1 stop for “the world outside your window” – don’t sleep on this one! (S) Ho Che Anderson, Danny Lore, More (A) Sean Hill, Valentine De Landro, More (CA) Taurin Clarke
