Alien #1> THE ICONIC CINEMATIC TERROR MAKES ITS MARVEL DEBUT!
Gabriel Cruz gave his life to Weyland-Yutani–In the case of an alien attack he barely survived, almost literally! Recently retired, Cruz is trying to patch things up with his abandoned son with the help of his friend, a Bishop-model android, but his re-entry into civilian life is not going smoothly…and his encounters with the deadly Xenomorph are far from over. Phillip Kennedy Johnson and Salvador Larroca team up to tell an all-new tale of the titan of horror and science fiction that has scared audiences for decades. No one is safe. No one is innocent. And no one can hear you scream. (S) Phillip Kennedy Johnson (A) Salvador Larroca (CA) Inhyuk Lee
Smurfs Take> In my opinion I think Marvel has some rather big shoes to fill on this title. I really like the early Dark Horse stuff, and while it wasn’t H.R Giger I do thing they did their best to capture and embody the feel of the Alien. Also the stories were rather compelling while still trying to push a horror vibe. Marvel has proven over the past couple years they can do non cape stories, but to be fair they were also titles they had done before. This is something different and excited to see what they deliver.
Stray Dogs #2> Something doesn’t smell right! None of the dogs know what happens behind that door at the end of the hallway. All they know is there’s a punishment for sniffing around it. What secrets are hidden in the Master’s Forbidden Room? (S) Tony Fleecs (A) Trish Forstner
Smurfs Take> What a strange surprise this was. With the first issue going to a second print (also out today) and no wonder after how quickly the story and perspective just grabs the reader. It’s nothing I expected, I was curious just based on the idea and always on the look out for something different, but this looks to be a whole lot more than a cover can begin to explain.
Maestro War And Pax #3> The Pantheon has the Maestro on the ropes – or so they think. But the Maestro’s true enemy is about to show his face…and no one is going to like the future he has planned. (S) Peter David (A) Javier Pina (CA) Dale Keown
Smurfs Take> So many questions answered and yet so many more to go. I think I had taken Peter David for granted back in the day, not realizing just how layered his stories can be. It’s like he never left the title as the future history of the Hulk seems to just fall together for him with ease. A must read for any Hulk fan!
The Scumbag #6> An army of deadly know-it-all devil hippies known as Moonflower plans to brainwash all of humanity with hyper piety! Ernie Ray doesn’t care until a hot cult escapee convinces him to help. Can he stop them and earn her love? Will he join the 238,000-mile-high club? Is hepatitis transmittable in space? All will be explored! (S) Rick Remender (A) Bengal
Smurfs Take> This title is just out there. No unfulfilled promises, no apologies, just one big explosion of creative fun. I’m looking forward to the new story and to see if they can keep the momentum going, including the rotating artists for each issue.
Detective Comics #1034> DC Future State may be over, but the present looks tense! With the loss of his fortune and manor, the election of Mayor Nakano and the growing anti-vigilante sentiment in Gotham, Bruce Wayne must rethink how to be Batman…or risk being left behind by his own city. To make matters worse, a catastrophic crime wave has taken hold of the city, culminating in a murder mystery that hits close to home—the suspects mount, the clues multiply and the trail of bodies hasn’t ended yet! Eisner Award-winning writer Mariko Tamaki and superstar artist Dan Mora begin an exciting, surprising and death-defying new chapter of Detective Comics.
Plus, in the second and concluding chapter of “Demon or Detective,” Damian Wayne meets a startling new faction from his family’s checkered past…but what is the League of Lazarus? (S) Joshua Williamson, Mariko Tamaki (A) Gleb Melnikov, Dan Mora
Smurfs Take> I’m not sure what to feel after future state but of the two Batman titles this one has more of my interest than the other. The idea of Batman having to go a little old school for now, actual detective work is rather exciting. I will stick it out for a bit to see where it’s all headed but not too excited with all of the other changes going on.
