Smurfs High Five

#NewComicsDay and the hits keep coming. Another loaded week and while you take a look at Smurfs #Top5 you might want to consider giving Guardians, Bounty Hunters, and Maestro a look. Sponsored by  the free All C’s Collectibles Fan Expo June 12 &13. Now Smurfs has five stacked high, ready to fly:

Locke & Key Sandman Hell & Gone #1> If you think you can unlock the gates of Hell and just invite yourself in, you must be Dreaming!
The epic crossover between two of the most beloved fantasy universes in comics begins here. John “Jack” Locke is ten years dead, but that hasn’t stopped him from posting the occasional letter home… from Hell. Now Mary Locke will do anything to save her brother’s soul, including cut a deal with Roderick Burgess-the most evil man in England-to search for answers in the House of Mystery and risk the walking nightmare known as the Corinthian to find help in a disintegrating Kingdom of Dreams! (S) Joe Hill, Neil Gaiman (A/CA) Gabriel Rodriguez

Smurfs Take> The colliding of worlds and I couldn’t be happier, feels like I have been waiting for this to happen forever. I went into detail about this on the podcast a few weeks ago, but I will keep it short here. I’m intrigued by both of these worlds and to have them come together is a perfect blend expanding and building up the other.

Thor #14> THE FINALE OF “PREY” – AND THE FIGHT OF THOR’S LIFE!
All-Father Thor breaks out of his prison! But Donald Blake has amassed more power than the King of Asgard can know. One thing is certain: When the hammer comes down, only one man will remain standing. Big action and big stakes are the Donny Cates and Nic Klein special – but you’ve never seen them like this before. This is the issue you can’t miss! (S) Donny Cates (A) Nic Klein (CA) Olivier Coipel

Smurfs Take> Wow….Just wow is all I’ve got left for a story that’s just been, well wow.

Daredevil #29> THE TRUTH IS FINALLY OUT: ELEKTRA IS DAREDEVIL!
Having taken up the cowl and the club in Matt Murdock’s absence, Elektra, the deadliest assassin in the Marvel Universe, has a long road ahead as she works to protect the legacy of The Man Without Fear! OLD FOES! NEW FACES! LOST LOVES! After the past six months, just imagine what secrets superstar creators Chip Zdarsky & Marcho Checchetto have up their sleeves! (S) Chip Zdarsky (A/CA) Marco Checchetto

Smurfs Take> This has been a terrific surprise and twist of fate. I’m not sure how long it can last, but I’m enjoying the change of perspective and I think it’s something both these characters have needed.

The Joker #2> As the dust settles on Arkham Asylum and tragic recent events, the Joker is the most wanted man in the world and powerful forces are lining up around the globe to hunt him…but where exactly is the Clown Price of Crime? Jim Gordon, facing his twilight years haunted by the madman, knows where to start the hunt and he’s been given the go-ahead to pursue him…but will he be willing to pay the price? And what shocking revelation will Gordon stun Batman with before he departs?

And in the backup story, within the walls of Blackgate Penitentiary, Punchline has become the target of the Queen of Spades from the Royal Flush Gang. It’ll take everything Punchline has just to survive, while on the outside, Bluebird digs deeper into Punchline’s horrific past! (S) Sam Johns (A) Guillem March, Mirka Andolfo

Smurfs Take> Call me sentimental but I miss Gordon. I miss the good old days of the grumpy old guy on the roof of GCPD standing in the rain (It’s always raining in Gotham) waiting for the bat. Gordon going after the Joker makes perfect sense to me and should have happened long ago. It’s about time they show a little respect to this character and show he’s more aware of what’s going on than they gave him credit for.

The Scumbag #7> “MOONFLOWER,” Part Two The battle on the moon continues! ERNIE gets separated from the rest of his crew and meets the leader of the evil MOONFLOWER cult. Will she convince him to help her with her nefarious plans with the promise of free sex and drugs? …Probably.  (S) Rick Remender (A) Francesco Mobili, Moreno Dinisio

Smurfs Take> This book is just fun and just so off it’s hard to look away.
