Smurfs #Top5 picks are sponsored by the free to attend All C’s Fan Expo June 12 & 13 be sure not to miss it, now we got five stacked high and ready to fly:

Alien #2> THE RETURN TO EPSILON!
Cruz has only one chance to save his son from the horrific fate he barely escaped. The clock toward total collapse is ticking. The aliens are loose. (S) Phillip Kennedy Johnson (A) Salvador Larroca (CA) Inhyuk Lee

Smurfs Take> First issue….not bad, not bad at all and left me with the itch for more. Also made me crack out the old movie and give that a go as well. There is some huge potential for this title and as much as I’m pulled to the movies for Aliens there is something to be said for sitting down and immersing yourself with a good story. Worth giving it a try for the next few issues and see if it holds up to expectations.

The Old Guard Tales Through Time #1> A STAR-STUDDED ANTHOLOGY EVENT! The bestselling, critically acclaimed THE OLD GUARD, now a hit Netflix movie starring Charlize Theron, returns with all-new stories by writers GREG RUCKA, VITA AYALA, BRIAN MICHAEL BENDIS, KELLY SUE DeCONNICK, MATT FRACTION, DAVID F. WALKER, and more, and artists LEANDRO FERNÁNDEZ, HORACIO ALTUNA, RICK BURCHETT, VALENTINE DE LANDRO, JUSTIN GREENWOOD, KANO, NICOLA SCOTT, and more!Andromache the Scythian—a warrior over six thousand years old, who has fought more battles than she cares to remember—has kept one constant companion through her long lifetime of combat…her labrys. Andy’s battle axe takes many forms, and many lives, in its centuries at her side, a story told by THE OLD GUARD creators GREG RUCKA & LEANDRO FERNÁNDEZ.Meanwhile, Nicolo “Nicky” di Genova and Yusuf “Joe” al-Kaysani, lovers since they tried (and failed) to kill each other in the First Crusade, spend an evening at Berlin’s famed Eldorado nightclub in the twilight era of 1932, sharing drinks with drag queens and fistfighting Nazis in an all-new story by writer ANDREW WHEELER (Another Castle: Grimoire) and JACOPO CAMAGNI (NOMEN OMEN)! (S) Andrew Wheeler Greg Rucka (A) Jacopo Camagni Leandro Fernandez

Smurfs Take> It’s wonderful to be surprised from time to time and this was one of those times. I had no idea about these characters or world and the comic till I watched the Netflix movie (Like most people) and was left wanting more with not a lot out there to choose from. To see an expanse on the characters is exciting, and yes it has a bit of Highlander to it with a twist I still want to know more and the rest of the story.

Stray Dogs #3> Under the farmhouse, something rots. And no matter how well they’re trained, dogs will be dogs. Now they’ve uncovered something that can’t just be buried again. (S) Tony Fleecs (CA) Tony Fleecs (A/CA) Trish Forstner

Smurfs Take> Yes, it’s a story about dogs. I know, not your typical comic or something you would consider. Let me tell you this is far from typical and is well worth the read. Doesn’t matter if you’re a dog or cat person, this is some clever writing that shouldn’t go unnoticed.

Justice League #60> Superman, Batman, Green Arrow, Black Canary, Aquaman and Hawkgirl join forces with Black Adam to fight an all-new world conqueror! But how do they stop the unstoppable power known as Brutus? Enter new mega-power sensation Naomi, who comes face to face with the League and brings along Queen Hippolyta of the Amazons for a blockbuster battle for the ages—with a last-page cliffhanger that will leave everyone guessing what’s next!

And in the backup tale, the new Justice League meets the new Justice League Dark, and the demon Etrigan calls the team to action—but Batman has other plans. This team needs a leader, but what twisted secret prevents Zatanna from stepping forward? Plus, Ragman makes a startling discovery—one that may cost his life! (S) Ram V., Brian Michael Bendis (A) Xermanico Marquez

Smurfs Take> New team, new feelings. I missed Black Adam, and to see him interact with people is just entertaining but looking at the bigger picture this looks to be setting up something huge.

Way of X #1> THE WAY TO THE FUTURE OF X!
Mutantkind has built a new Eden… but there are serpents in this garden. Some mutants struggle to fit in. Some mutants turn to violence and death. And the children whisper
of the Patchwork Man, singing in their hearts…Only one mutant senses the looming shadows.
Snared by questions of death, law and love, only NIGHTCRAWLER can fight for the soul of Krakoa. Only he – and the curious crew he assembles – can help mutants defeat their inner-darkness and find a new way to live. The WAY OF X.
SI SPURRIER (X-MEN LEGACY) and BOB QUINN (CAPTAIN AMERICA) push the frontiers of Krakoa in this unmissable entry into the bold new REIGN OF X. (S) Si Spurrier (A) Bob Quinn (CA) Giuseppe Camuncoli

Smurfs Take> I don’t know the state of X to be honest. Trying to follow the X-Men these days is a bit of a challenge and confusing with who’s on what team and what baddie they’re fighting. I do however love a good Nightcrawler story and this seems to fit that nicely. Something a little different for the mutant fans without pulling you in over your head.

Bernie Wrightson Frankenstein SC> Few works by comic book artists have earned the universal acclaim and reverence that Bernie Wrightson’s illustrated version of Mary Wollstonecraft Shelley’s Frankenstein was met with upon its original release in 1983, which vividly presented the timeless, terrifying tale of one man’s obsession to create life – and the monster that became his legacy. AThis book includes the complete text of the original groundbreaking novel and approximately fifty original full-page illustrations by Bernie Wrightson that continue to stun the world with their monumental beauty and uniqueness. This edition also contains introductions by Stephen King and author Mary Shelley, as well as supplemental material including a history of the novel, a chronology of Mary Shelley’s life and work, and the historical context of Frankenstein for readers. (S) Mary Shelley (A/CA) Bernie Wrightson

Smurfs Take> Something for everyone with this must have pick. A classic for the horror enthusiast, images that are just too amazing for words, and a story that is ageless. There is nothing that I can say to really do this justice, it’s that good.
