Smurfs High Five

#NewComicsDay be sure to hit your local comic shop early because I have a feeling it’s going to be a big day. Along with the #top5 picks that Smurf has for you there is a lot of titles that might not make it to the end of the day. It’s also a twofer this week for must have trade paperbacks, one new and one old that will help get you through the extended weekend. All of this sponsored by All C’s Collectibles and the free to attend All C’s Fan Expo June 12 & 13; now we got five stacked high ready to fly:

TMNT The Last Ronin #3> Unexpected allies from the past reveal a possible path to salvation! As the Foot Clan sweeps NYC for the rogue Ronin, a final desperate plan in the name of vengeance is made! Spanning decades, this issue’s action and intrigue will set up the astounding final issues! (S) Kevin Eastman, Peter Laird, Tom Waltz (A) Ben Bishop (A/CA) Kevin Eastman, Esau Escorza, Issac Escorza

Smurfs Take> My god this is good. Just so damn good and I’m sure it’s true with a lot of the fans out there. It’s the characters we all loved all grown up and there have been some casualties along the way. The approach to this story is perfect with a balanced where they are and flashbacks to what happened. I can’t think of a better TMNT story befitting of the characters and for the fans.

Epsilon Station is overrun with danger, not all of it from Xenomorphs! Cruz holds mission information back from his soldiers, but he’s not the only one with secrets. We are not who we say we are. (S) Phillip Kennedy Johnson (A) Salvador Larroca (CA) Inhyuk Lee

Smurfs Take> Feels like a movie, could see this version on the big screen no doubts about it. Even better is they have also captured the same feel of the original comic series and we haven’t even got to the Aliens yet. Great pacing and I feel this is the issue it all goes nuts and can’t wait.

Beta Ray Bill takes a bloody path to find his glory – and the perfect weapon to forge it with! And he’s even got a few friends to brave the battle alongside him. But the journey is one even Odin would call treacherous…and not all of Bill’s friends will survive. At least not in the form you know. Daniel Warren Johnson and colorist Mike Spicer will break Bill’s heart – and yours! (S) Daniel Warren Johnson (A/CA) Daniel Warren Johnson

Smurfs Take> Please just give him his own series already!

Strange Adventures #10> Once upon a time on Rann, Adam Strange made a deal with his neighbors and foes to take a stand against the invading Pykkts. Now, on Earth, he is trying to do the same thing: to get all the heroes to rise as one to keep the marauders from doing to his home planet what they already did to his adopted one. But the original deal was a devil’s bargain, and Alanna Strange has received a mysterious letter that may tell her more than she wants to know. If she wants to keep her husband safe, it’s time for her to go on the offensive. (S) Tom King (A) Evan “Doc” Shaner, Mitch Gerads

Smurfs Take> Just a great story, DC doing what it does best and that’s letting the work and characters carry the title. I really do feel these characters and I know that might sound a bit mad but I would be willing to bet after a couple of issues you will as well.

Maestro War on Pax #5> DOOM.
The Maestro thought he knew his enemy. He thought he was facing a band of gods. The truth…is so much worse. (S) Peter David (A) Javier Pina, German Peralta (CA) Dale Keown

Smurfs Take> KNEEL BEFORE DOOM! Now we’re talking. I have been waiting and wondering if we would get this face off and at long last it’s here. Anxious to dive into this one but sad to see it come to an end.

Crossover TP Vol #1> Imagine everything you thought was fantasy… was real. And now join us, in a world where reality is dead…and anything is possible…
The powerhouse creative team of DONNY CATES (Venom, Thor), GEOFF SHAW (GOD COUNTRY, Thanos Wins), DEE CUNNIFFE (REDNECK), and JOHN J. HILL (NAILBITER) have reunited after a string of breakout hits for an all-new, genre-defying series.
Collects CROSSOVER #1-6.

Smurfs Take> Every issue made it into my top five picks. One of the most creative titles of the year no doubt about it and if you were waiting to just read them all at once, here’s your chance.

The Authority Book Two> As the 21st century dawns, a battle-hardened Authority turns its attention to a previously unchallenged class of villains-the invisible power brokers who manipulate the world’s political figureheads to advance their own selfish interests. The powers that be, however, didn’t get where they are by playing nice. They’ve made plans for every contingency-including teams of insanely powerful superhumans with sentient, city-size, interdimensional spaceships. So when the Authority begins to seriously upset their hard-won networks of control, the backlash that results is as swift as it is devastating. But as bad as things get, these attacks are still comprehensible on a human scale. The same can’t be said for what is following in their wake. This volume collects The Authority #13-29, The Authority Annual 2000 #1, and stories from WildStorm Summer Special #1, along with an introduction by Tim Miller, director of Deadpool. (S) Mark Millar (A) Frank Quitely

Smurfs Take> It feels like a lifetime since this was in print and about time they got back to it (It’s been like 10 years or more). I also think it has a lot to do with Jupiter’s Legacy on Netflix since it’s the same creative team behind that. I loved this series and just how well developed the characters were. Gritty, very authentic, and it was just a wild series. A very true to life feel that was kind of the rage back then with similar titles and kept the reader hooked. Just a great series!
