#NewComicsDay as we start to head into the summer months and only two weeks till the All C’s Fan Expo. That however is something future you can look forward to, right now it’s all about the fresh new titles hitting the shelves of your local comic shop. Smurf’s here to help with his #Top5 picks so your not running blind or risk missing something good; so we got five stacked high and ready to fly:
Star Wars War of the Bounty Hunters #1> AT WAR FOR THE GREATEST PRIZE OF ALL: HAN SOLO!
THE HUNT BEGINS! Nobody. Steals. From BOBA FETT! The notorious bounty hunter will not stop until he gets what’s rightfully his. For the thief, no corner of the galaxy is safe. Good thing for them that the REBEL ALLIANCE, THE EMPIRE and every bounty hunter in the galaxy is standing in Boba’s way. With a last-page reveal that will blow this Death Star-sized story wide open, Issue #1 is just the beginning. The biggest crossover in STAR WARS history will continue raging through the pages of the WAR OF THE BOUNTY HUNTERS event miniseries and tie-in to STAR WARS, DOCTOR APHRA, DARTH VADER and BOUNTY HUNTERS through October. Only one hunter will be left standing, and the STAR WARS galaxy will never be the same! (S) Charles Soule (A) Luke Ross (CA) Steve McNiven
Smurfs Take> I like how they did the build up for this story through all of the current Star Wars titles. And if there’s a bigger question on the mind of fans regarding the first trilogy of what happened with Han I would be surprised. The Alpha of this title was perfect and even made me feel bad for Boba which I think is wrong…right. We know how it end’s sure, but the thrill is in the ride getting there, an absolute must for any Star Wars fan this week.
Nocterra #4> “FULL THROTTLE DARK,” Part Four The road runs out as Val reaches the fabled location of her promised sanctuary. Will she find the haven she so desperately seeks, or will something far more terrifying be waiting for her? (S) Scott Snyder (A) Tomeu Morey, Tony Daniel
Smurfs Take> I just want to see where it goes.
Justice League #62> The Justice League! The biggest heroes! The biggest threats! With their powers out of control and trapped on a world they do not understand, the League must band together like never before. Queen Hippolyta is forced to confront her new destiny. All this and a last page so shocking that it will have fans of Naomi screaming! Meanwhile, in our bonus story, the Justice League Dark are trapped in the Library of Babel, where they are learning the hard way that the pen is mightier than their swords. Elsewhere, Merlin sets his sights on a lost city that hides the key to his violent delights. Could this mean a violent end for all? (S) Ram V, Brian Michael Bendis (A) Xermanico, David Marquez
Smurfs Take> I don’t know what I’m more compelled by; the story or the fact that Black Adam is on the Justice League and Superman was the one pushing for it. I have really enjoyed the last few issues with the mix of characters and location helping fuel the story even further.
Basilisk #1> Who Can Stop The Chimera?
Five individuals bound by a cult-like hivemind, they terrorized small towns with their horrifying supernatural sense-based powers, leaving death and destruction in their wake.
Regan, one of the Chimera, escaped and has been in hiding, with her murderous eyes bound, overcome with guilt.
Until now… when a victim from her past forces her to hunt down the other four of her kind.
New York Times bestselling horror writer Cullen Bunn (Harrow County) and artist Jonas Scharf (Avengers Of The Wasteland) reunite to unleash a supernatural horror series for fans of Killadelphia and Stillwater rooted in the way we process the world – our senses. (S) Cullen Bunn (A/CA) Jonas Scharf
Smurfs Take> Boom has been putting out some incredible stories and it hasn’t gone unnoticed. Now another step into the darker horror side of storytelling and I think it’s fantastic. It looks to have the perfect blend of Sci-Fi and Horror with the must have in all great horror stories…a small town. The track record for the creative team has been as solid as it is impressive and I think we have another hit with this title.
Immortal Hulk #47> Last time, it was just business – and they destroyed a town and left the Immortal Hulk in pieces. Now they’re in the middle of New York City, fighting a very different kind of Hulk…and the AVENGERS are taking it personally. (S) Al Ewing (A) Joe Bennett (CA) Alex Ross
Smurfs Take> Love a good throw down between the Hulk and the Avengers! Not really sure how this one will go and as we build up towards the final few issues I wonder if there will even be long last effects from the fight.
