Smurfs High Five

The heat is on with a whole new week of new titles for #NewComicsDay! Smurf is back and has his #Top5 picks with a few new books hitting the shelves you don’t want to miss. Sponsored by All C’s Collectibles who is offering cash for all your collectables that you no longer need. Now sit back, relax, because we’ve got five stacked high ready to fly:

Ordinary Gods #1> For fans of THE OLD GUARD and GOD COUNTRY comes the extra-length first issue of a centuries-spanning action epic from writer KYLE HIGGINS (RADIANT BLACK) and artist FELIPE WATANABE (The Flash)!
The Luminary. The Prodigy. The Brute. The Trickster. The Innovator. Five gods from a realm beyond our own, leaders in the “War of Immortals.” Aleast, they were – before they were
trapped, sent to a planet made into a prison, forced into an endless cycle of human death and reincarnation. Christopher is 22. He’s got two loving parents and a 12-year-old sister. He works at a paint store. He’s in therapy. He’s one of the Five. Which means, in order to save everyone he cares about, Christopher will have to reconnect with his past lives and do the unthinkable: become a god again. (S) Kyle Higgins (CA) Dave Johnson, Nicola Scott, Declan Shalvey, Rod Reis, Tula Lotay, Dan Panosian, Matt Wilson (A/CA) Felipe Watanabe

Smurfs Take> Every so often a comic gets by me. It happens, so many different ones come out you can get lost in your staple reads as the stack grows. So I have to thank Netflix for bringing Old Guard into my view and now I want more in that style and this looks to fit that desire nicely. Something compelling about the whole concept behind this book and the characters driving it and like I have said Image knows how to do non-cape stories so well.

Hellboy & BPRD Secret of Chesbro House #1> Hellboy works with a psychic to clear a haunted mansion for auction. But the ghosts in residence aren’t quite ready to go gentle into that good night, and the answer may lie in a connection with the living world . . .
Hellboy creator Mike Mignola teams with longtime collaborator Christopher Golden and artist extraordinaire Shawn McManus to bring you a brand-new frightful delight from the world of Hellboy!
First of a new two-part story. (S) Mike Mignola, Christopher Golden (A/CA) Shawn McManus

Smurfs Take> I’m starting to get spoiled with this steady flow of Hellboy stories. As much as I loved the ongoing story these little self-contained one off’s have been refreshing and such a hit for me. The real reason I love the character as they explore the dark world around us battling demons.

Green Lantern #4> Improve. Adapt. Overcome. The same lessons John Stewart learned in the Marine Corps help him begin his quest to find the other lost Lanterns in the dark sectors of space. Meanwhile, back on Oa, one of the Corps’ newest members, Jo Mullein, alongside Young Justice’s Teen Lantern and Simon Baz, tends to the wounded and investigates who or what caused the source of all Green Lanterns’ power to go nuclear and wipe out the Corps. (S) Geoffrey Thorne (A) Tom Raney, Marco Santucci

Smurfs Take> Alright, this is an interesting shake up to the Corp! Not Hal killing everyone but damn close and excited to see if this will be as big an event as it feels as every Green Lantern tries to survive. This could be epic!

The heroes of Krakoa are here to save the planet! Things might be complicated between the nation of Krakoa and the rest of the world, but to the X-MEN, things are simple – you do what’s right, you protect those who need protecting and you save the world we all share. Cyclops, Marvel Girl, Sunfire, Rogue, Wolverine, Synch and Polaris are the chosen champions of mutantkind, and they will not shrink from any battle for their home planet. Writer Gerry Duggan (MARAUDERS, DEADPOOL, UNCANNY AVENGERS) reteams with superstar artist Pepe Larraz (HOUSE OF X, X OF SWORDS, UNCANNY AVENGERS) to chart the course of the X-Men in a world of the Reign of X!  (S) Gerry Duggan (A/CA) Pepe Larraz

Smurfs Take> I would kill for the X-Men of old. Two teams seemed to work the best and had a great flow and balance to it. Now as the mutant world starts to take on a new direction I hope…pray that they can get back to their roots a bit more. Maybe this is where that can start.

Immortal Hulk #48> COUNTDOWN TO THE END…
Questioning himself after his recent confrontations, the Hulk turns to the one person who always understood him – only too well. It’s time for truths to be told. But will it be Betty Banner who tells them…or will the Hulk face the gaze of the RED HARPY? (S) Al Ewing (A) Joe Bennett (CA) Alex Ross

Smurfs Take> I don’t know where it’s all going, no idea how it’s all going to end but the ride has been fun and different. It seems like there are so many unanswered questions as we close in on the last few issues there wont be enough time to tie up all of the loose ends. I can’t wait to see just how this all comes together.
