#NewComicsDay looking great with a splash of horror coming out from all of the different publishers. Here’s Smurfs take on his #Top5 picks of the week and must reads, sponsored by All C’s Collectibles who is offering discounts to hold slot members at both locations. Now we got five stacked high ready to fly:
The Me You Love in the Dark #3> Ro becomes even more intimate with whoever, or whatever, is haunting the old house as she finds the spark of inspiration for her most personal paintings yet.
Writer SKOTTIE YOUNG (I HATE FAIRYLAND, Deadpool, Strange Academy) and artist JORGE CORONA (NO. 1 WITH A BULLET, Super Sons, Feathers) follow up their critically acclaimed series MIDDLEWEST with a brand-new haunting tale. Fans of Stephen King and Neil Gaiman will enjoy this beautiful, dark, and disturbing story of discovery, love, and terror. (S) Skottie Young (A) Jorge Corona
Smurfs Take> Absolute gold! Really digging the story and the art and has so many things going for it from the world of horror.
Arkham City: The Order of the World #1> The Joker’s attack on Arkham Asylum left the long-standing Gotham establishment in ruin, most of the patients killed or missing, and only a handful of surviving staff—a few nurses, a gravely injured security guard, and one doctor. In the chaos of the assault, it is believed that several of the asylum’s patients escaped and scurried off into the dark nooks and crannies of Gotham City. Now, these Arkhamites walk among us, and it’s up to the Asylum’s one remaining doctor, Jocasta Joy, to round up her former patients.
Meet these Arkhamites: a woman with no face, a pyggy in search of perfection, a man who feels nothing and burns everything, a woman who must devour life to save herself, a man unfit for the waking world who looks instead for Wonderland, a body with more than one soul, a being unbound from time who lives in the present and the past, a boy who seeks the comfort of vermin, and the twisted man who sees them all for who they are. And witness the avenging angel who stalks them.
This fall, join writer Dan Watters and artist Dani on an odyssey through the deepest depths and darkest shadows of Gotham City and find all-new reasons to fear the night. (S) Dan Watters (A) Dani Strips
Smurfs Take> I think this is an amazing idea and the perfect way to tell some really out of the box stories about the sinister element of Gotham. It doesn’t even have to focus on Batman at all while expanding the rogues gallery and do stories on someone other than the Joker and Punchline.
Amazing Spider-Man #75> AMAZING SPIDER-MAN is back to thrice-monthly because this story is pure jet fuel. Ben Reilly has returned to NYC and has fully taken back the mantle of Spider-Man, but what does this mean for Peter Parker? The greatest team of web-writers has come together with the most epic arachnid-artists ever assembled to bring you a Spider-story that will shake up Spider-Man’s 59th year in ways you CANNOT PREDICT! (S) Zeb Wells (A) Patrick Gleason (CA) Art Adams
Smurfs Take> The Spider-Man title has gotten a little out of control if you ask me. While I’m excited for a new creative team I don’t know if three times a month is the correct answer to all of the spider folk running around in this title. It’s an exciting milestone for sure as we approach 60 for old web head and what better way to do that than bring back his clone….or the real Peter Parker?
Darkhold Alpha #1> ENTER THE PAGES OF THE DARKHOLD – AND LOSE YOUR MIND IN MIGHTY MARVEL FASHION!
Critically acclaimed writer Steve Orlando joins forces with extraordinary artist Cian Tormey for a story that will delight and terrify! For hundreds of years, scholars and heroes alike have searched for the complete text of the Darkhold – a.k.a. the Book of the Damned, written by the elder god Chthon. Now one of the greatest sorcerers in the Multiverse has found it – and Chthon has found him. To save them all, the Scarlet Witch must gather the world’s greatest heroes…and unleash their inner darkness. Witness the Marvel Universe’s descent into chaos! (S) Steve Orlando (A) Cian Tormey (CA) Greg Smallwood
Smurfs Take> I remember the series from back in the day and thought what a great idea just a bad execution of it. Looks like the house of ideas learned from that and have given us something with a little more punch behind it, and from the looks of it inspired from the Netflix series WandaVision. This should be a fun read.
Wonder Woman 80th Anniversary 100-Page Super Spectacular #1> Put on your tiaras and prepare your indestructible bracelets! DC is inviting you to join us for a one-of-a-kind special showcasing Wonder Woman’s past, present, and future to celebrate the legacy she has created and those she will continue to inspire with her adventures for years to come. This oversize super spectacular features work from some of the very best in the comic industry along with bright young stars ready to share the spotlight with Diana. You won’t want to miss these new stories that capture timeless messages of hope and empowerment presented together in this gorgeous keepsake issue! (S) Jordie Bellaire, Amy Reeder, Becky Cloonan, Michael Conrad (A) Jose L. Garcia Lopez, Amy Reeder, Paulina Ganucheau, Jim Cheung
Smurfs Take> The last few Anniversary issues DC has put out have been great reads with some very original stories. A perfect blend of something fresh and different while pulling from the past influences. This issue I think will be great for any fan of the Wonder Woman character who has been an inspiration and a staple of the DC universe for so many years. A lot of different covers for this one like the previous anniversary issues.
