Meat and Potatoes

I’ve never read the “Dune” books and I’ve tried to watch David Lynch’s 1984 adaptation on numerous occasions, but for some reason I fell asleep every time. Now we have a new version done by Denis Villeneuve who’s work was great in “Sicario” but totally blew me away in “Blade Runner 2049” so I’m thinking they got the prefect guy to give “Dune” it’s proper adaptation to screen.

*The MEAT* The story here is *A Lot* as in a lot to take in. I knew nothing of the “Dune” universe, and it was all explained throughout the film. But clearly there were things only people who read the book will understand. I wish I would have brushed up on some cliff notes first, it would have helped, a lot.

*The POTATOES* The acting was *Huge*, but that was to be expected because this was an impressive cast assembled here. Foremost, Timothee Chalamet plays the lead very well, I was impressed. Rebecca Ferguson has the second biggest role, and she never disappoints. And Stellan Skarsgard was awesome here, almost unrecognizable, but oh so memorable. I could go on and on about the abundance of Hollywood talents here because every scene has someone famous just pop up. Just a *Fantastic Cast*. Wish they all had more screen time. But hey, this movie was almost 2 and a half hours long as it is.

*The VERDICT* I came out of “Dune” feeling like I had just watched the first season of “Game of Thrones”, It just started getting good after making it through all the slow episodes and I can not wait for the next season to start now. “Dune” is *Large* I mean *Huge* it is filmed on an *Epic Scale* for sure and I must recommend “Dune” for the theater big screen for that reason alone. Yes, it moves slow and does seem like it is longer than it really is, but Holy Crap does this movie immerse you in an amazing world that very few movies have ever achieved. You just can’t get the same experience at home, however I can see, where story wise “Dune” might have made a better television series.
