#NewComicsDay it’s a great day to be a comic book enthusiast!

They say if you start reading your books at 6pm on New Year’s Eve, at midnight you have that fewer books in your stack to read in the new year. Thankfully it’s a little lighter on titles this week to help with that and Smurf is here with his #Top5 must read picks to kick off the reading extravaganza. Sponsored by All C’s Collectibles who is ready to help will all your collecting needs in 2022, but for now we’ve go five stacked high ready to fly:

Stray Dogs Dog Days #1> A series of vicious short stories howling straight out of the pages of STRAY DOGS, 2021’s surprise cartoon/horror smash hit! In DOG DAYS, each stray will get their moment to shine-questions will be answered, mysteries will be solved, and old wounds will be torn open. Starting this December…every dog has its day.
REGISTER PITCH: The Lady and the Tramp meets Silence of the Lambs horror thriller that took the industry by storm is back in this standalone spinoff. (S) Tony Fleecs (CA) Tony Fleecs (A/CA) Trish Forstner

Smurfs Take> One of the big surprise hit’s for me this year and excited to see more coming from this creative team. One of the most creative titles on the shelf with such great characters, something different with inventive storytelling that comic readers are always screaming for.

DC Vs. Vampires #3> Vampires are hunting on the streets of Gotham City as the coming undead plague makes its first move. Batman’s investigation into the disappearance of Andrew Bennett takes him into the sewers beneath the Hall of Justice, where he makes a stunning discovery! And the fall of another hero means the war for Earth has begun! (S) Matthew Rosenberg (A) Otto Schmidt

Smurfs Take> I just love this title! So much carnage, sooooo much fun.

Hellboy Bones of Giants #3> Hellboy, still inhabited by the ghost of the Norse god Thor, has his first confrontation with the newly resurrected Frost King Thrym! But not having recovered his full strength yet, Thrym slips away and leaves Hellboy to follow a grisly path toward their next encounter.

Based on the novel by Mike Mignola and Christopher Golden, this comics adaptation brings readers into Hellboy’s fight against the Frost Giants with stunning art by Matt Smith and colors by Chris O’Halloran. (S) Mike Mignola, Christopher Golden (A/CA) Matt Smith

Smurfs Take> Oh my God, so much fun! READ THIS! That’s all you need to know.

Timeless #1> HOW DO YOU WIN A WAR AGAINST TIME? A special year-ending adventure that gives portents as to what is to come in the Marvel Universe over the next twelve months! Kang the Conqueror is a warrior, a destroyer, a subjugator—but even he is subject to the whims and vicissitudes of time itself. So when a parallel timeline threatens to overwrite the future Kang has fought so long and so hard to control, the master of the ages has no choice but to go to war with time itself, battling through days of tomorrow as he struggles to prevent the end of what is to come! Featuring all the major players in the Marvel pantheon!

(S) Jed Mackay  (A) Kev Walker, Greg Land, Mark Bagley

Smurfs Take> I fear this will be the trend for a while now, as we move away from Thanos as the big movie bad to Kang and an increase on his focus. Not that  it’s a bad thing and a change up is always good but where Thanos had power Kang has the numbers. That could be the downfall to all of this as we start to explore the different timelines and what if’s, things become hard to keep track of and quickly get out of control. If it’s done well…..then this could be the start of something very fun to read.

Echolands #5> As Teros Demond searches for his daughter—the magical assassin Iris—Hope Redhood and her crew plan their next move with the help of the mysterious Oracle. But their brief respite is about to be interrupted by unexpected arrivals… Meanwhile, Rabbit’s fate rests in the hands of the robots of Metamaru Mountain. (S) J.H.Williams, W. Haden Blackman (A) J.H. Williams, Todd Klein Dave Stewart

Smurfs Take> There’s a lot of great things about this book but just difficult to read at times. One of it’s unique qualities could also be it’s largest hurtle.  I do keep coming back because of the story and characters who share a few similarities in concept and art style with Aria from back in the day. That could be the reason for the attraction since we never really got any closure to that story and this looks like it could go the distance.
