Smurfs High Five

#NewComicsDay it’s a great day to be a comic book enthusiast as the new year is under way and fresh titles hit the shelves at your local comic shops. Our sponsor All C’s Collectibles is paying cash for your collections if you’re looking to make room after the holiday season. And Smurf is here with his #Top5 picks to get you back in the flow of things, so we got five stacked high ready to fly:

Wastelanders: Doom #1> THE ONCE AND FUTURE KING! DOCTOR DOOM helped wipe out the heroes on the Day the Villains Won, but even as he rules his domain in the Wastelands, a greater destiny calls to him. When a mysterious power blocks his oversight of a particular region, what he discovers will have ripple effects across the WASTELANDERS stories! (S) Torunn Gronbekk  (A) Julius Ohta

Smurfs Take> Back in the day, when Doom 2099 was a regular title I had such high hopes. I will always feel Marvel left so much on the table with that title and it could have been a lot more than it was. Years later now, and I have those same expectations bubbling around this title and believe Marvel is going to deliver. It’s a chance to see further into the Old Man Logan story/universe and a chance for Doom to be Doom on a level we haven’t seen before.

Arkham City: The Order of the World #4> Dr. Joy is now face to face with the ghost of Amadeus Arkham-the ghost that she had assured all her patients did not exist. Now faced with overwhelming evidence that the Ten-Eyed Man’s “delusions” were anything but, she has found herself questioning everything. Meanwhile, Dr. Phosphorus and Nocturna attempt to live a “normal” life in Gotham, but the good doctor’s radioactive body may be having unforeseen side effects on their unsuspecting neighbors. (S) Dan Watters  (A) Dani Strips

Smurfs Take> Has been a solid story driven series with a lot of character love that any comic fan will thoroughly enjoy.

Dark Knights of Steel #3> War is on the horizon as a series of assassinations has rocked the lands. The Kingdom of Storms is gathering its allies with eyes on the destruction of Kal-El and his family. What secret does the Dark Knight learn that could be the key to everything? (S) Tom Taylor (A) Yasmine Putri

Smurfs Take> Elseworlds at its best! The first couple issues have done a great job of setting the stage and ready for the chaos to begin as DC produces a decent fantasy style story.

Elektra: Black, White & Blood #1> Fact • noun • fakt – Definition of Fact 1 a: something that has actual existence b: an actual occurrence c: ELEKTRA NATCHIOS IS THE BEST ASSASSIN IN THE MARVEL UNIVERSE! (S) Declan Shalvey, Leonardo Romero, Charles Soule (A) Mark Bagley, Leonardo Romero, Simone D’Armini

Smurfs Take> The last few titles under the Black, White, and Blood have been great independent stories of the main title. With the event’s going on in Daredevil I think it’s adding to my excitement and my wanting more Elektra that this is hitting at the right moment. Great way to get stories without having to worry about sustaining an ongoing storyline which has always been one of the issues around this character.

Thor #20> “GOD OF HAMMERS” PART 2 of 5. Mjolinr is on a rampage across the realms and is leaving death and destruction in its path! Thor must act fast to save his kingdom for the deadly prophecy of the God of Hammers is about to be unleashed! (S) Donny Cates (A) Nic Klein

Smurfs Take> Loved the opening to this storyline, not sue what to expect or how this fit’s together in the overall story….and I don’t care. This has been a fantastic read and have no intention of leaving this title anytime soon.
