Classic Rock Wednesday

The 80’s had a lot of things going on in the music world as we saw the birth of so many different styles both in music and fashion. There is one performer synonymous with the time that I have waited to talk about simply haven’t for the reason of what song to choose. The man was smooth and had such a soulful yet haunting voice that’s so evident in his hits “Hello” and “Say You, Say Me”, feeling the raw emotion and heart in every verse. While both are powerful songs true, they’re a little slower paced for closing out a long week, regardless of the style of song the energy and soul are always there.

It’s even obvious in the songs he wrote for performers of the day, Kenny Rodgers, Diana Ross, and even Michael Jackson. Lionel Richie’s heart must be made of just pure music and hit music at that as all of his albums in the 80’s dominated the charts. In a world of hairbands, power ballads, Hip Hop, and Metal Lionel always seemed the go to winning four Grammys, A Golden Globe, an Oscar, and both song and album of the year. I myself have had to buy the same Vinyl album from just over playing it and is how I came to the decision for todays song. It’s the changing of the season and the perfect song to kick off the weekend, from Lionel Richie’s second album and one of the best selling of all time “Can’t Slow Down”.   I’m the Listener and this is “All Night Long” for your Classic Rock Wednesday….Friday Edition.
