Smurfs High Five

#NewComicsDay and it’s a great day to be a comic book enthusiast! Smurfs #Top5 picks are sponsored by All C’s Collectibles and have announced its guest lineup for their fall event with more to come. Smurf on the other hand is laying by the pool enjoying his must read of the week and exactly what you should be doing as well with our five stacked high ready to fly:

DC Vs. Vampires: All-Out War #1> One of the last secret, underground human cities is facing total annihilation and its leader—John Constantine—must plan a suicide mission to assassinate a key lieutenant in the vampire empire! Against unreal odds and with an unlikely team including Booster Gold, Deathstroke, and Mary Marvel, does the Hellblazer have one more trick up his sleeve? A gritty, violent, monochromatic companion series to DC vs. Vampires!

(S) Guillaume Singelin, Alex Paknadel, Mathew Rosenberg  (A) Guillaume Singelin, Pasquale Qualano

Smurfs Take> This series has been absolute mayhem and it’s fantastic! High body count, creative ends, and best of all you don’t know who’s going to bite it next. About time Constantine takes the lead but I have a feeling that things might not go as planned but should be a great read.

Hellboy & BPRD Time Is A River One-Shot> When Hellboy accidentally left eclectic academic Lajos in a ghostly version of Budapest in “The Miser’s Gift,” he didn’t realize how far-reaching the consequences would be! As timelines get crossed, reality starts to crumble and Hellboy must return to the ghostly city to recover Lajos before it’s too late.
Mike Mignola and Márk Lászl , along with colorist Dave Stewart, return with an explosive one-shot to continue the story they began in “The Miser’s Gift,” part of the Hellboy Winter Special from January 2020. (S) Mike Mignola (A/CA) Mark Laszlo

Smurfs Take> Every single one of these self-contained stories have been a hit for me and to get an extension to a previous one is an added bonus. If you have ever thought about getting into Hellboy or just curious about the character pick one of these up. Well worth the read and you won’t regret the time spent, very true to the spirit of comics

Fables #153> “Don’t come back until you’ve had a big adventure!” What’s the worst that could happen? In order to get a bit of work done, Bigby has sent his young ones off into the Black Forest, but to Snow, this only spells danger. How well equipped are her cubs to face down the creatures that lurk within the woods? (S) Bill Willingham (A) Mark Buckingham

Smurfs Take> So happy with the return of this title and so many characters that I had missed. It’s amazing how eloquently Bill crafts his stories, the characters, the dialogue, all of it fit’s so well together and topped off with art that’s so unique fitting of the title.

A.X.E. Judgment Day #1> IN THE LAND OF THE RIGHTEOUS…The X-Men claim they’re the planets’ new gods. The Eternals know that position is already filled. The Avengers are about to realize exactly how many secrets their so-called friends have kept from them. Years of tension lead to a volcanic eruption as two worlds burn. Who has leaked the X-Men’s secrets to their latest foes? Why is Tony Stark abducting an old friend? And who stands in judgment over the whole world? Judgment Day from Kieron Gillen and Valerio Schiti is the apocalyptic emotional event to define the summer. (S) Kieron Gillen  (A) Valerio Schiti

Smurfs Take> This feels like a bit of a late start for the summer event, but I guess better late than never. I like the idea and the story fits well into the current world of Marvel as it seems like everyone has been off doing their own thing with no overlap. Has the X-Men Vs. the Avengers been played out? Absolutely, and perhaps by adding the Eternals to the mix might give it a new perspective.

Rogues Gallery #1> Writer HANNAH ROSE MAY makes her comic debut with rising-star artist JUSTIN MASON for an all-new series with DECLAN SHALVEY.
The Purge meets Scream in a home invasion thriller that follows disenfranchised TV superhero actress Maisie Wade as she is terrorized by an unhinged group of intruders cosplaying her day job’s archvillains. If Maisie is going to survive the night, she’ll need to be the hero she has come to despise. (S) Hannah Rose May (A) Justin Mason, Triona Farrell

Smurfs Take> This looks great! The whole idea of the story just hits the right spot for me, and I have high expectations for this one. Seems like another compelling story from the house of creativity guaranteed to hit the cheap seats.

DC Designer Series Catwoman Stanley Artgerm Lau Statue> From TMP/McFarlane’s Toys. Based on the work of Stanley Lau, this beautiful DC Designer Series statue is classic Catwoman all the way. Standing about 8 inches tall, this statue conveys all that is the character of Catwoman as she is seen with her iconic whip, a stolen jeweled necklace, and her cat companion. This 1/6 scale resin statue is hand numbered on the base. Limited to 5,000 Pieces.

Smurfs Take> Artgerm has produced some of the most amazing art I have ever seen. To see it converted into statues is an even bigger treat and I pray McFarland can deliver on quality and detail.
