Smurfs High Five

#NewComicsDay and it’s a great day to be a comic book enthusiast! Smurf, fresh off his trip from C2E2 delivers up his #Top5 must read for the week. Some great choices and don’t overlook the new Ghost Rider, ASM, and Batgirls. All of this insight sponsored by All C’s Collectibles and the All C’s Fan Expo just a few months away. Be sure to get your passes today, in the meantime we’ve got five stacked high ready to fly:

Predator #1> HUNT. KILL. REPEAT. In the near future, a young girl sees her family slaughtered by the deadliest and most feared hunter in the universe: a PREDATOR. Years later, though her ship is barely holding together and food is running short, Theta won’t stop stalking the spaceways until the Yautja monster who killed her family is dead…or she is. Ed Brisson (IRON FIST, GHOST RIDER) and Kev Walker (DR. STRANGE, DOCTOR APHRA) forge a violent, heartbreaking and unforgettable new chapter in the PREDATOR saga not to be missed! (S) Ed Brisson (A) Kev Walker

Smurfs Take> The comic I thought we would never get has finally arrived! After the runaway hit the Aliens title has been it only made sense, we would get a Predator story. I know it’s had a fair share of hang-ups but the potential for this series is huge, and I’ve been anxiously awaiting this day.

Dceased: War of the Undead Gods #1> What began as a battle for Earth has become a war for the galaxy as the epic final chapter in the massive DCeased franchise is here! The emergence of a reborn, undead Darkseid in DCeased: Dead Planet sets the stage for the most devastating conflict yet for Batman, Superman, and Wonder Woman! As the Anti-Life Equation spreads into the cosmos, the survivors of Earth prepare for the coming apocalypse and realize their only hope could lie in the most powerful surviving hero from the first DCeased series… The bestselling creative team of Tom Taylor and Trevor Hairsine return for their third and final installment in War of the Undead Gods! (S) Tom Taylor (A) Trevor Hairsine

Smurfs Take> The Dceased universe has offered up some interesting ideas and characters. I will be interested in seeing how they wrap this all up and how much will overflow into the main DC universe….if it does at all. I just wish DC could pull it all back together to give us one consistent world and less offshoots. None the less this looks to be an exciting story with a fair amount of carnage.

Hellboy & The BPRD 1957 Falling Sky One Shot> Cryptozoologist Woodrow “Woody” Ferrier joined the B.P.R.D. to find exciting and previously undocumented cryptids, but unfortunately most of his cases end in disappointment. But a trip with Hellboy to small town Virginia where a huge and mysterious creature stalks the woods might provide him with just the opportunity he’s been waiting for!
Hellboy creator Mike Mignola and longtime collaborater Chris Roberson gives us a new tale from the world of Hellboy. Featuring art by Shawn Martinbrough, colors by Dave Stewart, and letters by Clem Robins.

Smurfs Take> Everything that has come out Hellboy related has been a solid hit for me. I would almost say it’s title of the year as each issue offers a great story that anyone can enjoy. In the vein of classic horror comics with a modern twist, great read cover to cover!

Dark Crisis: Worlds Without A Justice League Green Lantern #1> The Justice League is dead-long live the Justice League! When Pariah and his forces of the Great Darkness laid waste to the most powerful superheroes of all time, all hope was lost…until now. To power his weapons of war, Pariah has captured each member of the Justice League and trapped them on worlds suited to their every dream and desire…while the planets themselves slowly eat away at their respective inhabitants. John Stewart takes to the sky to defend his planet as the Emerald Knight of Justice alongside allies Red Hood and the blind prophet Kyle Raynor! Where there’s life there’s hope, and with that hope comes a deeper unraveling of the tapestry of DCU’s biggest event of 2022! (S) Jeremy Adams, Phillip Kennedy, Kennedy Johnson (A) Jack Herbert, Fernando Blanco

Smurfs Take> With the major summer story well on the way now comes the crossovers and state of the rest of the universe. Dark Crisis definitely has my attention as the mystery and story start to grow. I don’t know how to explain the last few GL stories as I think DC tries to find its footing with the title and perhaps this is the platform it needed for a new launching point.

A.X.E: Judgment Day #2> …THE WICKED WILL BE PUT TO DEATH! As the world shakes, an unlikely group of heroes and less-than-heroes gather to find a peaceful solution. Sadly, the best laid plans of man, mutant and Eternal oft go awry… (S)Kieron Gillen (A) Valerio Schiti

Smurfs Take> Decent start of a first issue and I’m interested. Not sure if it’s from lack of decent stories from the house of ideas or might be a fun read and something a little different. I’m in for the next couple of issues for sure just to see what happens and where it goes, Marvel has always done well with the start of stories just a little questionable on the landing at the end.
