Smurfs High Five

#NewComicsday and it’s a great day to be a comic book enthusiast! This week Marvel goes full Blood Hunt, be sure to not miss Midnight Sons and a Thanos Annual that has my attention. Image doing an amazing job with the newly acquired Creature and Sacrificers continues to awe fans, while DC blows the doors off with House of Brainiac and some interesting choices for Penguin. Proud to have All C’s Collectibles as our sponsor who is offer cash for your unwanted collectible items if you’re looking for a little summer spending money. For now, we’ve got five stacked high ready to fly!

Void Rivals #10> Secrets of the Sacred Ring revealed!
VOID RIVALS finally puts the “energon” in their corner of the Energon Universe! (S) Robert Kirkman (A) Lorenzo De Felici

Smurfs Take> I’ve always been a fan of Springer, maybe it’s because he has the best line in Transformers the Movie, maybe it’s the fact that he’s a triple changer and love how his alt modes look. Now that he’s in Void Rivals (for the moment) I’m doubling down on this title. Kirkman has done a great job of setting the stage for this intergalactic opera and no telling where this is going to go. Every issue takes a hard left in a direction you didn’t think of or see coming. There’re more questions added every month with a little more story and it’s fantastic.

Absolute Power: Ground Zero #1> STAGE ONE

As the DC Universe braces for the Absolute Power blitzkrieg, the key to capturing metahuman powers on planet Earth will at last be unlocked! Bridging the events of Batman, Superman: House of Brainiac, and Suicide Squad: Dream Team, this special oversize GROUND ZERO issue brings Waller’s total dominance to the doorsteps of the world’s finest heroes…using the combined might of FAILSAFE, BRAINIAC QUEEN, and the SUICIDE SQUAD to do it! (S) Mark Waid, Joshua Williamson, Nicole Maines, Chip Zdarsky (A) Gleb Melnikov, Skylar Patridge, V Ken Marion

Smurfs Take> DC finally gets to the main title for their big summer event and I’m mildly curious. I know the publisher is trying to find its way and have had some struggles finding their footing in a functioning universe, but I have some doubts in the choice of characters. I find it hard to believe Waller is this much of a player or would have this much of a hand in the shaping of a universal empire. Lex, Mongul, Darkside, sure but Waller. I know DC is the best at making the B-Team shine and maybe I’m not giving them enough credit, but I’m interested to see where it goes.

Blood Hunt #4> Doctor Strange and Clea court a dread ally – but at what cost comes this aid? Hunter’s Moon and Tigra do the same- but can this shadowy figure be trusted? And meanwhile, the Avengers are given the battle they so sorely crave in order to avenge their fallen friends. But in the darkness…a light? (S) Jed Mackay (A) Pepe Larraz

Smurfs Take> I’ve just enjoyed the hell out of this series and has been a fun read. I mean I fully expect it to end with the Dreaming Celestial waking up but have appreciated the choices made, and I’m trying not to give anything away on this because I do think it’s worth the read. As far as summer event’s go it’s been brutal, great moments for heroes and villains alike, and yes, I absolutely think Blade is the key to it all.

Star Wars: Darth Maul-Black, White, & Red #3> CRISIS OF MAUL! DARTH MAUL is fiercely loyal to his master, DARTH SIDIOUS, and a true believer in the Sith. But will a mission to a remote moon change his mind? ERICA SCHULTZ (Hallow’s Eve, Amazing Spider-Man) and LEONARD KIRK (Sabretooth) bring you a crisis of Master and Apprentice! (S) Sara Pichelli (A) Leonard Kirk

Smurfs Take> Perfect! A character cut short, all that potential left on the floor, only getting half of the story. I could go on, but I think you get the point, this is the best way to tell Maul’s story and the last couple of issues have been awesome for Maul and Star Wars fans alike. The Dark Side runs strong here, and I’ve given in.

Rook: Exodus #3> As Rook and Dire Wolf are hunted by the bear warden Ursaw, they need allies to fight back. Dire Wolf takes them to a secret sanctuary called the Oasis, where we meet another enigmatic Warden and his formidable crew. But can they be trusted? And whose side are they really on? Also: If you think you know how sick and twisted Ursaw is, you’ve seen nothing yet! (S) Geoff Johns (A) Jason Fabok, Brad Anderson

Smurfs Take> Wow, just wow. I didn’t know what to expect from this title when I started it and still don’t. This has been amazing fun and a bevy of characters that have kept my attention and have me hooked. No idea where it’s going and with Geoff Johns driving who can tell, but something different.
