Smurfs High Five

#NewComicsday and it’s a great day to be a comic book enthusiast! It easily could have been an all Image top five this week with Sam & Twitch, Rook, and Holy Roller rounding the list. Marvel has another Spider-Heavy week with launch on the new Ghost Spider leading the way but you still have Thor and Predator in there as well. DC finishes its war with Godzilla & Kong while Superman and Lobo face-off in the ongoing Brainiac story. Not to be left out the Thundercats are on the loose, the High Five is sponsored by All C’s Collectibles who is paying top dollar at both of their location for your unwanted items of your youth stop by today; but for now we’ve got five stacked high ready to fly!

Cobra Commander #5> MINISERIES FINALE
THE RISE OF COBRA COMMANDER
To build an army, Cobra Commander makes a deal with a powerful ally that can’t be trusted.
Now that’s its started, can the Cobra Threat ever be stopped? (S) Joshua Williamson (A) Andrea Milana, Annalisa Leoni

Smurfs Take> The series I had the biggest amount of doubt about with the new Energon Universe turns out to be my favorite in the bunch. It took the one concept I disliked sooooo much and fixed it. Not only fixed it but improved it, made it better and has set in motion a desire for more (Insert slow 80’s style clap here). Ready to see how this ends but more importantly ready for the next chapter…Destro.

The Amazing Spider-Man #50> GUESS WHO’S BACK?! THE GREEN GOBLIN RETURNS in this landmark and massive issue of ASM that boasts not only a double-sized main story but some instant Spider-Man classics by legends and legends to be! The Sins of Norman Osborn have found their way home and Norman shows his true color – green. But is it truly that simple? Spidey and Gobby’s brutal fight is one for the ages and you don’t want to miss this ending. PLUS! MARV WOLFMAN RETURNS TO SPIDER-MAN! NIKESH SHUKLA tells a story that will stay with you for a long time. And more! (S) Zeb Wells, Marv Wolfman (A) Terry Dodson, Ed Mcguinness

Smurfs Take> The payoff is here! I’ve been waiting for this since Normans return and what better person to finish this off than Marv Wolfman. I really don’t have the words for my excitement on this one, so I leave it to my inner eight-year-old…oooooooo.

Void Rivals #9> As Darak and Solila cling to life, deep in the wasteland they find—SPRINGER?! It’s the first Energon Universe appearance of everyone’s favorite Triple-Changer Autobot! (S) Robert Kirkman (A) Matheus Lopes, Lorenzo De Felici

Smurfs Take> The story has already been great and unpredictable as we try and understand the scale of this story and the universe around it. There’s so many stories going on at the same time with this title it’s fantastic as we take baby steps towards the larger picture. Now add one of my favorite Transformers to the story! Ready for this!

Bat-Man: First Knight #3> BOOK THREE

As the Voice’s grip on Gotham tightens, Jim Gordon doesn’t know whom he can trust. With monstrous beasts threatening the city, he turns to the Bat-Man for help, but to truly stop this reign of terror, playboy millionaire Bruce Wayne will step in to help guide the investigation. It all leads to a heart-pounding conclusion that will literally set Gotham ablaze! (S) Dan Jurgens (A) Mike Perkins

Smurfs Take> It seems I like the out of continuity and all of the characters surrounding Batman rather than the main title. This has been a great departure from whatever is going on in the Bat-Universe and offered up a great Batman story rich in action and actual mystery that needs detective work. Too bad it’s in the new Black Label Elseworld, but I’ll take it.

Blood Hunt: Red Band #2> The vampires’ first strike has laid low the world, and their endless legions run riot across the planet. The broken Avengers join the fighters of the Midnight Mission and unlikely allies BLOODLINE and DRACULA in seeking out the one man who can do something about this: Doctor Strange. But after the apocalyptic events of BLOOD HUNT #1, what is left of Earth’s Sorcerer Supreme? The streets run red with blood as maestro of mayhem Pepe Larraz offers new vistas of carnage in this special expanded RED BAND edition that’s so much more graphic and explicit that those weak of heart will shudder from its intensity! (S) Jed Mackay (A) Pepe Larraz

Smurfs Take> The fight for who did it better is under way. Who has the better Vampire story, DC or Marvel? The first issue was the usual grand Marvel opening, but starting strong with a series has never been a problem for them, it’s the bit’s that come after. I am curious to see how they do the two different versions with the Red Band but I like the world overran by Vampires and excited to see just how far this story goes.
